Anyone try Prolozone/Prolotherapy?

I’m looking for something to help my problem area - upper left side of my back / left side of neck.

It is my last symptom of Lyme and CO’s that I am trying to get rid of.
(I have a few others’ that are more mild/can live with)
I think there’s some negative emotions wrapped up with it - as well - it was my very first symptom area - back in 2013 that sent me to the emergency room.
The pain isn’t as bad now - but it’s chronic and bad enough that it disrupts my life.
For instance - I am working now - quite a physical job - I work 3 days a week on average - 5 hours each shift. But - if I didn’t have the upper back pain (that sometimes affects the thoracic area too) - I could work an extra shift each week.
Fatigue/stamina isn’t really an issue.

I’m thinking of trying some sort of therapy - and remembered reading about the prolotherapy about 4 years ago.

Also, there is a Naturopath in my city who advertised some sort of method to help with muscle/tendon pain - can’t remember now what it was called...
I’m thinking of calling and asking about that as well.

Changing my focus from treatment of infections to repair/damage.

Your thoughts?

I just discussed it with my hubby - as it will prob end up being costly - with no guarantees. His words “go for it”

I saw the ND today - very nice guy.

He knew a little about Lyme disease and talked to me about my experience.

So we discussed the prolotherapy and I let him inject saline into my scapula area - after he examined the area and he could feel where the tightness/knots were.
The saline injections are first - and then next week I can get the sugar injections if I decide to.
Even though the needles hurt somewhat, I did get some relief - less stiffness in that area.


I have extended health - and the visit/procedure only cost me $50.

I think I’m going to go back next week and give it a go with the sugar injections.

Here’s some info on how it works

“ Prolotherapy involves injecting an irritant solution, usually a combination of dextrose (sugar), saline (salt), and a local anesthetic such as lidocaine. However, there are other solutions that can be used such as concentrated 23.4% saline and platelet-rich-plasma (PRP), to name a couple. This irritant solution is injected into ligaments and tendons where they attach to bone (also known as entheses) to restimulate the body’s natural injury-healing process. This occurs over a period of 6-8 weeks. The new connective tissue that is laid down will then mature and become stronger over the next 12-24 months,3 which should provide more stability and decrease pain stemming from these structures. There have been animal studies4,5,6 that have shown an increase in ligament and tendon thickness after prolotherapy injections compared to controls. “

I looked into this. In the US its not yet insurance accepted and quite expensive.

So, I tried dry needling (not the needle aspiration procedure) the deeper small diameter knots and it didnt last at all.

At $50 in Canada, you got a screamin' deal.

Yah - time will tell - it is supposed to promote healing... worth a try.

My health insurance covers a limited amount of Naturopathic appts. I doubt if any details are given.

I made my appt with the ND for the prolotherapy - I’m going to ask him not to go up as high as he did last time with the saline.

I just want him to inject around my left scapula.
