Mew protocol with FOUR Malarone twice a day??

I went to see a new doctor for bad Babesia and they prescribed doxycycline and amoxicillin plus four Malarone twice a day three days a week. Does that seem over the top? I can’t imagine how ill even be able to keep two pills down... let alone four twice a day. Anyone else ever been on this high of a dose?

LLMD MR protocol (to compare)

Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone) 250 mg/100 mg. Start the atovaquone/proguanil at 2 pills 2 times a day for 3 days, and then decrease to 1 pill 2 times a day. Combine it with one of the following:

Azithromycin (Zithromax) 500 mg 1 time a day,
Clarithromycin (Biaxin) 500 mg 1 pill 2 times a day,
Doxycycline 100 mg 2 pills 2 times a day, or
Minocycline 100 mg 1 pill 2 times a day.
In addition, if these combinations are not working, add

Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim 800 mg/160 mg (Bactrim DS or Septra DS) 1 pill 2 times a day to create a four-drug regimen. (Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone) has two drugs in one pill).

8 Malarone a day does seem a lot.
Are you sure he didn’t mean 2 twice a day?
Maybe because you’re only taking it for three days a week?

I’m trying to remember what Dr J prescribes.

Maybe call and get confirmation that’s what he prescribes.

According to my schedule for Dr. J's Babesia protocol, it says take (3) Malarone 2x day Mon, Wed, Fri.

That would be two weeks on, one week off.

Just chiming in to say that I was prescribed 3 pills of Malarone, twice a day, for an extended period of time. I am not familiar with pulsing protocols but it does not sound that unreasonable. If you think there was a mistake with your prescription, you should definitely check with the doctor's office. You can always start with a lower dose and work your way up. (But maybe check with them about this, too.)
