Rash all over my body. Pictures included.

Hi,

So I took Plaquenil for Babesia a few days ago.

200 mg just once.

The day after I took it, I woke up with a pretty bad rash all over my body.

I can't stop itching and it doesn't seem to improve.

Here is a picture of just my arm and hand, but it's literally over my entire body.

I'm not sure what to do, and I'm not sure if it's even the Plaquenil.

Any help is appreciated.

I had something similar at a much smaller scale when I tried Ceftin. Doctor said it was an allergic reaction.

I went to the doctor today.
He confirmed it's an allergy to plaguenil.
Got prescribed prednisone.
However, I'm aware prednisone is bad for Lyme.
So I'm just keeping it on hand for now.
I'm glad that today the itching seemed to have reduced a lot, so I likely won't need the prednisone.

You're so kind to think of me, I appreciate that a lot.
I did not know that about L-theanine, that's really good to know actually.
I'm not currently taking it, but I think it's probably best to not take it again, given my already severe adrenal issues.

Thank you for your comment here and in the other thread also.

The doctor didn't do any tests but he said it has to be the plaquenil.

It actually got WAY worse than in the picture I posted.
Basically my entire body was completely red at one point.
I've never itched as bad in my life.

Then my legs became dark purple, not even sure what that means, but it's clearing up now.
The other symptoms were the severe itching, which was really bad. And I keep waking up every hour really warm.
I ended up taking the prednisone after my last comment, I couldn't stand it anymore.

Now my body is peeling from all the scratching and dryness.
I tried 4 different anti-histamines and non of them worked except for 1 a little bit.
The prednisone definitely helped a ton but I hope it doesn't set my lyme back too much.
I've only taken it for two days now, I hope I don't need it tomorrow.

I agree with Girlie. That sounds very much like SJS. I would never touch Plaquenil again and have it put in my medical records that I was allergic and possible SJS from it. Keep your pictures for reference including ones of the skin peeling.

I read up on this stuff after my mom had a severe reaction to Bactrim. Drug reactions are not really allergic reactions the way foods and other things are. Steroids like Prednisone and antihistamines like Benadryl won’t stop them and don’t do that much. It’s really scary. My mom had rash, itching, feverish, syncope, and basically went out of her mind from both the reaction and all the meds she was given for it. She doesn’t really remember it now, but I do.

I'm doing ok all things considered, it improved very quickly the last 2 and a half days, most of the rash has cleared up and my lips are close to being healed as well.

I was surprised by how quick it cleared up, considering my whole body was flaming red and both my legs were covered in purple skin.

There's a bit of a rash on my legs left, but not much.

My skin is very dry, so I'm peeling a lot, but that's not a big deal.

Hopefully I can stop the prednisone tomorrow
