Dissability

Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone on here is on disability, especially SSI. I do not have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI and I talked to a lawyer about SSi who to,d me that this type of disability is based on income and because I live with my parents their income and even my sisters income would be counted against me. Even if I moved out into my own apartment SSI at its full amount if under $900. I am working a three hour job five days a week now but because I can not drive and there is no bus route to the country a family member has to take me and they can not do that forever. I am so lost on what to do.

I am no expert on disability, but that doesn’t sound right.

I am sure there must be an advocacy group somewhere who can help you sort all this out. Anyone know of such off hand?

I am pretty sure that those on SSI also live in HUD housing and pay little to nothing for rent and utilities. Their rent and utilities are subsidized.

My state has a state vocational rehabilitation office that can help disabled people get what they need to be employed and stay employed. If your state has such an office, try to schedule an appointment to discuss with them.
