Hi Guys,
Back on this forum again after a month long absence. Been treating mold with binders and seeing slow improvements (yay!), which I'm hoping will continue.
Anyways - recently I've started Ketotifen, an H1 antihistamine and Mast Cell Stabilizer, to help with some of my mold/mcas symptoms, and I think its beginning to help. I've noticed some of my achiness, brain fog, and flushing reducing, which I'm excited about
. However, it is DRYING me out like nothing else, leading to unfortunate bouts of constipation.
I've struggled with constipation previously, and 1000mg of magnesium daily + 1 tsp of Triphala + lots of water and Vit C have kept me regular for quite some time. With the addition of Ketotifen, these supplements above don't seem to be cutting it. Antihistamines are known to dry out fluids in the body, and I suspect thats what has been causing my constipation.
Any advice? I don't know what else to try!

I thought you were going to say that the binders were constipating you, since they are so good at constipating people!
Have you tried other mast cell stabilizers that are not constipating - cromolyn, DAO, quercetin, bromelain, low-histamine diet, nettles, etc.?
I have a smoothie each day that contains berries, kale, flax seeds, chia seeds, ginger, and raw beet. Huge amounts of fiber in that, if you have a good blender.
Warm herbal tea in the morning on an empty stomach can sometimes get things moving. Also probiotics, pumpkin, and sweet potato.
I'm sure you know all this, but proper sleep cycles, hydration, stress, vegetable intake, and exercises (as able) also can impact digestion.
I'm sorry that you are dealing with this! Constipation feels just awful.

Part of what I use is drinking a little virgin olive oil. I use it anyway for calories, but it does help with constipation. And like saraeli, I also thought you were going to say binders constipate you. Learned that quickly.

Coffee enemas or enemas in general are another option.
I think most hot beverages drunk on an empty stomach first thing can help stimulate bowel movement. I've not found that one tea does that better than another, personally, although senna and Traditional medicinals Smooth Move tea are known to have laxative effects. Some find caffeine helps, too - coffee or tea.
Some yoga poses also can help to get things moving.

vitamin C can also be taken to bowel tolerance - which basically means until it give you loose stools - several CFS doctors advise thsi approach even long term
magnesium citrate can also be used as a mild laxative - it works by keeping water in the bowel and hence causing soft stools
these methods are safer than pharmaceutical or herbal laxatives which can have lasting ill effects

Xylitol (part of my protocol) makes me run to the bathroom every time.. within 15 minutes.
You could try that.

Metamucil and four senna tablets at nite should work. Twice a day if once doesn't do it.

Iron-rich food is known to be a cause for constipation.
All this said, I was constipated for a good 2 years and eaven though I tried everything I never found any working remedy..
I would say healing your body in general is the surest way to come out of constipation or any other Lyme-symptom...
