And GABA inhibits thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) release from the pituitary. So then it would make sense as (and this is old news to you) less TSH makes your body think you have enough thyroid hormones, but then you don't.

On the plus side, one thing to converge from this is that your pituitary is still functional despite the thyroid issue.

something i have not come across before
although i had some trouble making sense of the paper ..... they seemed to be saying " it might do this - then again it might do the complete opposite!"
question that comes to my mind though is - if L-theanine lowers TSH - wouldn't that tend to tell the body it has enough Thyroid hormones and to release less/convert less - whereas what astro seems to be experiencing is - when he takes theanine he feels like he has more thyroid hormones running around
