ref why some people do not get ill - immune status i belie is the largest variable - imagine how we lived for the majority of human history - all but the last 2000 years inmost places we would have slept in huts or caves etc along with animals and their parasites - everyone was exposed. why are we sick now? - modern life, is not conducive with good health - and so more people become sick.
My guess is loss of NCF1 gene in modern humans. This gene is located in an unstable region of the chromosome which is prone to rearrangements, and loss of this gene is linked to lower inflammation and lower blood pressure. Since in modern life many more people die from high blood pressure than from infectious disease this genetic mutation started to become common. Unfortunately this weakens the immune system against Lyme. The vitamin D hypersensitivity problem that many of us have is also linked to this gene, or an adjacent gene.
