Very long post ahead!
You read that post title right. Time to throw away the empties and organize the others. Long time overdue. This is part of my stress reduction - removing clutter.
[ EDIT: Different types from the last 15 years. The regular ones were continually replaced with newer batches. They are not 15 years old LOL!! ]
I kept them in three
locations: kitchen cabinets and counter top(!!), bathroom, and hallway linen closet across from bathroom.
I also kept the empties all for future reference. Now I’m recording them on paper: the name and what they’re used for, so I can throw away the empty containers and sort the ones that still have something in them.
I had supplements just about
for every “body system” there is. Of course some of them did absolutely nothing that I could tell not in symptoms or lab tests. And some actually work.
There is also prescript
ion medications- ABX for tick infections, sleep, gut issues and thyroid.
Total number even surprised me.
I really needed to reclaim my kitchen counter tired of apologizing to people when they come into my kitchen. So I finally did it.
So tonight I made a 40 inch long x 15“ high 3” deep triple shelving unit that sits on my kitchen counter pushed back to the wall under the overhead cabinets. That alone holds like 60 supplement bottles.
Of course if you were at the front door looking 27 feet back at my kitchen wall you’d think I was a gourmet chef with all these spices and seasonings.... ha ha , nope -they’re supplements.
So I finally reclaimed some well needed counterspace in my little 1950’s dinette kitchen.
What’s next: I will record the empty ones and throw them out , they are in a box on the floor right now.
Out of the remaining 60 or so on the new shelf, I use about
10 of them daily. And there’s some anxiety and stress supplements that I use as needed. And digestive supplements that I use as needed. The rest on that shelf I really don’t use right now but they’re not empty so I don’t wanna just throw them away.
So this was a small first step required to get this under control. Which I achieved tonight after working on my sink this afternoon. Wish my kitchen / dinette had a little more space so I could make some sort of custom cabinet just for these.
I think and plan storage and organizational projects in small steps at a time. I just can’t seem to get the end result right away it takes a while to figure out. And this is that first step.
**While I was doing this I thought one good way to store supplements is in the typical silverware drawer under your counter. Those are usually 18-24 inches deep by 15-16 inches wide. And some kitchens will have several narrower ones as well but they are just as deep as the counter top. Even the smallest kitchens have at least three or four of these wider ones, which one of those is usually the kitchen “junk drawer”.
Supplement bottles under 4 1/2 inches tall could easily be stored in any of these drawers with the cap facing up. And you were just right on the cap with a magic marker what they are. That is the simplest way to store these you pull the drawer out in the kitchen counter is right there to remove the contents pills as you need them put them back in the drawer close it , nobody sees it. I think this will be my long-term goal.
I think this is a good discussion topic, any other ideas let everyone know.
We’ve had post here in the past complaining about
supplements all over the place(!), but I don’t ever remember reading one about
actually solving the problem.
————————-
What actually got me motivated to do this today today was a guy down the road that I was asking about
kitchen faucet leaks stopped by to look at my faucet and I had to excuse myself for all the messy unorganized health supplements. Now he had lyme also , but he just went to a regular doctor and knows absolutely nothing about
supplements. he’s one of these people that you just don’t wanna talk about
natural medicine with. It may help him because he still has symptoms but some people just don’t respect that knowledge. That said when he looked at all my supplements on my kitchen counter, that’s when I said to myself, “yes I have to do something about
this mess!”
