I have not read anything about how MTHFR impacts hormone replacement therapy. For people with migraines, it can be helpful to have consistent hormone levels via HRT (estrogen and progesterone). Have your providers discussed HRT with you yet? I definitely understand wanting to have a plan in place! Some people even begin some degree of HRT before a hysterectomy, to ease the transition.
To use alongside HRT (or instead of, if for some reason you really don't tolerate HRT):
For stress and sleep: ashwagandha, B vitamins, chamomile, valerian, tulsi (holy basil), reishi, magnesium, L-theanine, cordyceps, turmeric, cacao, schisandra, nettle
Manage any histamine issues you have: antihistamines, DAO, quercetin, limbic system retraining, avoid triggers (allergens, mold, infections, stress, overstimulation, high-histamine food, alcohol, etc.)
For vasomotor symptoms: maca, fenugreek, vitex, dong quai, kudzu, motherwort, black cohosh, wild yam, evening primrose
For cognitive symptoms: omega 3 fatty acids (DHA or fish oil), ginkgo, pine pollen, bacopa, rhodiola, licorice
For everything: cannabis - THC, CBD, or both - as lube, topical creams and balms, tinctures, edibles, etc.
For everything: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture, therapy, stress-reduction techniques
I hope everything goes well! Please update us about your progress. From what I have read, sudden menopause can be truly awful IF a person doesn't get treatment for the abrupt transition. Gradual menopause can also be awful, of course, but the sudden change is harder on the body, and it's great that you are planning and getting support now!
I just keep telling myself that no matter how rough perimenopause/menopause is for me, the lack of cycling hormones once it's over will be sooooo nice. I hope it's the same for you.
