did i read it right that his physical symptoms also resolved - or did it just effect his mental health - i wasn't quite clear from the paper

yep that's the way i read it -

i think there is a lot of potential in the psychedelics - the mental health benefits for treatment resistant depression (when used in pretty big doses and only as an adjunct to psychotherapy) and now PTSD are quite well established now - and i think its being used in hospice care for people who are having trouble coming to terms with their mortality.

one of the centres pushing the mainstream research forward is in the UK and the neuroscientist running it seems top notch.
his team has now shown long term structural changes in the "connectedness " of the brains via functional MRI scans - in subjects who went through the treatment for depression.

he thinks its basically unblocking thinking problems and allowing subjects to process thoughts, feelings and experiences that have been causing their depression - and hence the better connectedness.

this makes a lot of sense to me - as everyone i know with mental health issues has some internal self protection "blockages", denial, delusion, things they prefer to believe but are just not true etc etc etc that stops them addressing the issue head on and hence they get stuck.

the paper mentions immune modulating effects and anti-inflammatory effects - these are new to me
but i am still a little cautious / surprised about it being able to cure infection
unless this old guy had his own immune system put the infection back in its box already in the decades he was infected - and the magic mushrooms just then helped him resolve the mental health issues ....?

who knows though - i have read accounts of one or two people with CFS also claim total cure while they were taking psilocybin - large amounts in their case

yeah - my guess is its correlated not causal in terms of your illness - millions of people do magic mushrooms - the vast majority are fine

once in my youth i did 300 liberty caps fresh from the field with a few friends - that was a roller coaster few hours!! but absolutely no ill effects after ward - only good things.

the guy i did that with quit his drop out lifestyle after that - went back to university and got a 1st in physics ( they were v rare back then in the early 90's ) and he did it in 2 years instead of 3 - he thinks the mushrooms along with the mental effort increased his mental faculties significantly.

later a pal and i used to take them while doing "all mountain" style mountain biking in the hills (just a few) - it made the great outdoors all the more enjoyable - and the technical descents extremely scary and at the same time exhilarating

i have actually been experimenting with micro dosing in the last 12 months - a v small amount - just enough to notice v slight changes in perception.

i did this about 5 times over 2-3 weeks - but did not notice any benefits to Lyme symptoms (i do not have depression or anxiety)
