Withdrawal symptoms after long courses of ABX?

Hi all - First thank you for this forum! And to admins and moderators.

I’m transitioning off of Bactrim and now minocycline while on Buhner herbals. Feeling good - except the past few days now stopping the minocycline after taking them a LONG time - I have typical withdrawal symptoms, chills, sweats, aches, and pains, nausea, little dizzy, tired. Going to push through. I’ve been symptom free from Lyme and coinfections for over 2 months (while on abx and Buhner protocol) my plan is to continue the herbs. Anyone experience withdrawal type symptoms coming off long courses of ABX? info / opinion appreciated.

I have not heard of people having withdrawal when stopping abx.
withdrawal is a term used for drugs/alcohol addiction.

I’m thinking that your possibly symptoms are worsening when you stop the abx because the bacteria are flourishing without the abx to keep them at bay.

Also mino has anti-inflammatory properties. So stopping it could flare things up

Yes, I definitely noticed the flare up when stopping minocycline due to its anti-inflammatory effect. For this reason. I would pulse minocycline, taking a day or two off to let my immune system recover.

I also did get a rebound effect from stopping bactrim. Trimethoprim causes excretion of sodium and retention of potassium, and when I stopped I would get the opposite effect where my sodium went up and potassium went down, which messed with my blood pressure quite a bit. Ultimately I switched to a different antibiotic.

well done on getting symptoms free - that is huge !!

i think its likely as girlie has said - potentially the infections rebounding after abx is withdrawn - and/ or the removal of the minocycline anti-inflammatory effect

one option that may help - and has helped others - is pulsing abx for a week or so on and then gradually longer periods off - to gradually stop abx rather than stopping abruptly
