New tick bite

Hello BELOVED forum members,

My family member has a new tick bite.
Definitely infected. ( person is hesitant to treat. Old school mentality “ I don’t get sick/ too many bites to bother nonsense)
I have a stockpile of old abx. Plus herbals



Which would you recommend to cover more than one infection?

Ceftin
Amox
Doxy- won’t use bc this person in sun all day

Anyone know the herbs?



Side notes:

1) This person 99 percent already infected do a herx type thing may happen and put them off treatment

2) I can’t find Alexis Chesney recommendations to cover all infections both with abx and herbs. It’s good if you can find she has a book also.Good resource if can find.

doxy is normally recommended for tick bite prophylactis - as has the broadest cover for most organisms that ticks carry ( lyme, bart, brucella, q-fever, rickettsia - some babesia action etc etc )

i think amoxillin in children and those that cannot take doxy

ceftin also an alternate to doxy - probably not much in it with amoxillin

many LLMD's think Lyme may be almost ubiquitous and people only get sick when either life events or stressor or additional infections overwhelm the immune system and instead of them all being present but help in check by the immune system the situation flips and the infections become dominant and the immune system suppressed.

if a person does not believe they can get sick - or need to take steps - there is unfortunately v little you can do until they change their mind

My family has used Buhner's astragalus recommendation for tick bites, with good results. Most people would be happy to take one herb twice per day for a month because it's easy and there aren't side effects. However, our tick bites have been found very quickly - none has ever been engorged or even embedded, and no bite area has ever shown any redness or swelling.

If a rash appeared or the bite seemed infected in some other way, then I would opt for doxycycline. I hear you that this person will not take that because of sun sensitivity, though.

The next choice would be amoxicillin, since it does not cause sun sensitivity. In my region (the Northeast), amoxicillin is what regular doctors prescribe for children who have been bitten by ticks, rather than doxycycline. (I'm not sure why kids don't get doxycycline....)

I hope this person tries something! Like Garzie said, though, there's not much you can do to make someone take it seriously if they don't think it's a big deal. Fortunately, if anything goes poorly for them, you will have ideas to help!

just a follow up - while buhner does advise astragalus in large doses for prevention of lyme after tick bite - but just a word of caution - in his books he doesn't recommend astragalus for people with chronic lyme already ( i mention this as i note that you suspect this family member does already have chronic lyme )

acc to his books - typically he finds it makes symptoms worse - says something about it pushing the immune system more the wrong way in chronic lyme - but he acknowledges some people can use it - even when chronic
i would say suck it and see - but be prepared to stop if its making things worse

its mainly - completely i think - due to the fact that tetracyclines can stain the teeth of children whose teeth are still growing - apparently can turn them permanently grey / black

Doxy caused a brownish stain and minocycline caused a greyish/blue stain.

I was on both - first doxy and a few years later minocycline

My teeth are white now - no more staining
