Has anyone filtered their blood using CytoSorb or by any other company or method?

... and then had it pumped back into their body?

I'm aware this wouldn't heal the infections due to a variety of reasons, just curious how much it helped for those who tried it, if at all?

Theoretically, it should take at least some of the bacterial load off, especially when combined with antibiotics etc.

i have had questions from family members about why not try this

as you say - its unlikely to help with most infections as even the ones that are known to be blood borne - like babesia and especially bartonella - are also in the tissues of organs like liver, spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow skin etc - and also the cells that line the blood vessels - or sequestered in the low flow areas of the circulation system in capillaries and venules which would not be filtered in a blood filter process.
borrelia we know live almost exclusively in the tissues.

it could still help reduce symptoms short term though - by reducing the load of free floating bacterial metabolites and inflammatory chemicals - maybe even some of the reactive white blood cells ( dependent on the filter type)

i think there were some discussions around this on the phoenix rising forums - after research came out showing that there were inflammatory chemicals in the blood of CFS/ME patients - some were considering doing standard dialysis for kidney disease as one option of filter type

so i think this is where the main benefit could be - and who knows - if the treatment itself was well tolerated and you could repeat it often enough - it might help the body to recover more immune function and thereby help recovery

from what i recall - the discussion turned up some finding that filters have to be carefully designed to remove the specific chemicals that are thought to be the issue - and there were some difficulties there - as the official cause of CFS is not known( see note * below ) - and standard dialysis filters do not ( from memory and its been a while so i could be wrong here ) seem to do a very effective job at removing bacterial toxins.

*my symptoms are a 100% match with CFS - as per the symptoms surveys on PR forums - including PEM - as i think are many others here - so i am inclined to believe a lot of CFS sufferers are in fact suffering from chronic infections. i think some people there may have tried it.

seems like it does target inflammatory cytokines - but not bacterial endotoxins - at least not LPS

DOES CYTOSORB REMOVE PRO-AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY CYTOKINES?
Yes. CytoSorb can generally remove hydrophobic substances with a molecular weight of up to approx. 60 kDa. Due to the concentration-dependent removal, substances at high concentrations are removed more effectively than those at low concentrations. This autoregulation protects against the uncontrolled removal of endogenous substances and helps maintain the physiological immune response.

The spectrum of removable substances includes both pro- and anti-inflammatory mediators with elevated plasma levels. Physiologically important plasma components such as albumin are removed – as shown in studies – but only in non-clinically relevant quantities.
The CytoSorb therapy is intended to reduce the excessive immune response. Inflammatory mediators are reduced and thereby modulation of the immune system is effected.
As described in the literature, high concentrations of both pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines are associated with high mortality.

No. CytoSorb does not remove endotoxin, which is primarily involved in gram-negative sepsis.

In contrary to endotoxin adsorbers, CytoSorb can also be used for gram-positive bacterial sepsis, and other systemic infections (viruses, fungi, parasites).
In addition to cytokines, exotoxins such as the diphtheria toxin, alpha-hemolysin, Clostridium perfringens toxin or Shiga toxin can also be effectively removed from the circulation using CytoSorb.
In addition, CytoSorb can be used for all non-infectious causes of systemic hyperinflammation syndrome (e.g.: polytrauma, burn injuries, inhalation trauma, pancreatitis)
