when you say locate them - do you mean contact them by email sdarrah?
normally the forum just displays a username
some members have chosen to show an email address in their profile - this is optional - set by the user themselves
if they have done so - then you can look at their profile page by clicking on their user name - and email them at the email address shown there
if there is no email address shown - then the user has chosen not to make theirs visible - presumably for privacy reasons - and they cannot be contacted directly
in such cases - one option would be to make your own email visible in your profile ( it can be a throw away / anonymous account) and simply start a post asking for that user to contact you
