Mold, parasites, oral spirochetes

Hi, I’ve been reading around the forums for a while and appreciate all the info here. TLDR: should Lyme be on my radar with negative IGG serum test & positive oral spirochetes?

I’ve had some health issues beginning with secondary infertility/recurrent miscarriages since 2019. I conceived my son first try, no problem with a healthy pregnancy and home birth so all this came as a shock to me, though my son was very colicky. In 2020 I started having gum disease issues & I have impeccable oral hygiene. In 2021 we moved and I suddenly gained 20lbs despite exercising and clean diet. In 2022 I discovered I had parasites via muscle testing and have been on a protocol to kill them for 15+ months and counting. When parasites wouldn’t go away I switched practitioners and discovered mold toxicity in my body plus gut infections (klebsiella, candida, Blastocystis) via Cyrex array 12 igg blood serum. This test checked for lyme but that was all normal.

I found and eradicated the mold in my house (had it in previous home, plus in-laws, plus husbands office, all remediated) and I’m working on the mold protocol alongside parasite protocol but I don’t want any more time to pass by and miss some other co-infection. I know I have oral spirochetes and I don’t know if that’s the same as Lyme?

I’ve had many tick bites in my life, I live in the Midwest, and they usually swell and get red/itchy after. My last tick bite was 2020. I knowingly was first exposed to mold in 2017 towards the end of my pregnancy.

Symptoms: infertility, weight gain, brain fog, fatigue, eye floaters, left side of face swollen, left lymph nodes neck swollen, hands swollen every day, estrogen dominant, low testosterone, low progesterone, high SHBG, low bun/creatinine, gum disease, low motivation & drive.

Oral spirochetes were viewed under a microscope at the dentist’s office. They scrape a bit of plaque from the tooth.

IGenex is IGG serum correct? Since I’ve done igg serum already didn’t know if accuracy mattered from lab to lab. Muscle testing missed a lot for sure but at least got me started down the right path with parasites.

oral spirochetes ( genus Treponema ) are considered normal flora in healthy humans. it is present in over half of all healthy people.

they are a completely separate species to the spirochetes that cause Lyme disease ( genus Borrelia)

thus findings of spirochetes in the mouth are not an indication of lyme disease - despite this we do occasionally see members who have been convinced they have lyme disease by practitioners showing them evidence of oral spirochetes under the microscope

muscle testing has some enthusiastic followers - but it is not used by any of the leading Lyme Literate Medical Doctors - and there is not good evidence for its usefulness in diagnosis or treating infections.

both of these techniques tend to be used by less reputable 3rd tier practitioners - where they may be used to support the promotion of paid treatments based on these apparent "evidence" of a "diagnosis".

as a person with a chronic illness that is often under-diagnosed and under treated by conventional doctors - its is natural to look for answers elsewhere

however, its important to recognise that in doing so we step into an unregulated world of alternatives - populated with a wide range of practitioners: from the cynically exploitative to the well intentioned but delusional, to the somewhat rarer well informed and competent.
unfortunately, there is an entire industry profiting by exploiting the chronically ill and under informed and our need to have hope and find a way forward makes us highly vulnerable to their methods.

education is the main antidote to this exploitation
some of the ways we can do this are:
-learn how to distinguish reputable sources from low grade or misleading sources.
-learn how to differentiate high quality evidence from poor quality evidence
-learn to rely less on anecdote and word of mouth and more on high quality research.
-improve critical reasoning and be more aware of inherent bias.

Garzie answered my question regarding oral spirochetes.
I met with a new practitioner yesterday who suspects heavy metals at play especially given my run in with stachybotrys mold. The testing for that is much cheaper than Lyme so I think I’ll pursue that route first.

with multiple tick bites and ongoing unexplained symptoms - i think if it were me i would go for lyme and co-infection testing first - before mold

the problem with mold testing, eg urine analysis etc, is that almost everyone seems to come back positive for at least some of them - and we have very little available validation studies that demonstrate the diagnostic value of the tests - some practitioners also advocate various methods to stimulate a positive response - which the test labs do not recommend - making interpretation even more difficult - its a mine field.

if a "positive" mold result is found and then typically the practitioner wants to treat that - and the person is likely to go down the route of remediation in their home - or moving home ( removal of exposure is the 1st step in treatment ) and so white the test itself may be a hundred dollars cheaper - this route gets very expensive very fast

so if financial considerations are foremost you may wish to think on the ramifications a bit further.

i had struggled with the cost of testing myself earlier in my health journey - but in the end realised that every year that went by i was losing years of income - many tens of thousands of pounds - as well as years of my life - so came to the conclusion i needed to change the way i did my assessment.
