beta-lactam abx

Dear friends,

since I m allergic on Amoxicillin, according to your knowledge, which is a general substitution from penicillin family of abx? Say penicillin V would be an option? Currently I have been taking from cephalosporins - cefuroxime axetil, which works and gives herxing, but I d like to try to take something from penicillins to see its effect. I cant take intravenous or intramuscular ones at the moment, only per-oral. Thanks for your views and experiences. Best regards, B

Dear Garzie, thank you for your kind answer. Yes, I will try the V-penicilin and I will see, its mainly a skin reaction so its not too heavy.
Also, taking the opportunity, do you know of any news as for effectivness of supposedly new Lyme medicine HS-291 developed recently by Bay area lyme foundation? Thanks, best wishes

thank you very much for your answer and your good advice. Yes, Actually I need to firstly recognize, when my allergy is on amoxicillin specfically or on any penicilin-family abx. So I will go about slowly, perhaps starting small dosages and watching well.

I have had a question or doubt concerning one thing though: for the moment I m on cephalosporins combined with mino 100mg morning and doxy 200mg evening. Sofar I have had strong herx so I quited clarihtomycin that I used for first five days. I m planning to go on as long as herx will take place, then quiting for some days, based on idea of pulsing. My question is your view on adding clarihtomycin (500mg per day), since tetracycline and macrolides are well known combination, and in my case, instead of penicilin i m taking cephalosporin.What would be your advice?

As you or someone previously explained both tetracycline and macrolides are bacteriostatic and they block production of lyme, yet in in a separate ways so they support each other in their effectiveness.

End of herx would mean active borrelia has died off and survivors might become metabolically inactive or hidden, (i keep using NAC, lumrbokinasse, and Xylitol as well as oregano oil to go against both cysts and biofilm formations), so pulsing I guess is a good option, but I think max. 3-4 days after 7 days of abx.

Hi Garzie, sorry for unclear articulation. I m asking about adding macrolides, eg. clarithromycin on top of tetracyclines or more specifically tetracycline plus cephalosporins/penicilins. Thanks, bye, B.
