its not directed specifically at lyme
but its particularly targeted at drug resistant or drug tolerant bacteria and biofilm forming infections - so it should be highly applicable.
its not often that an entirely new class of antibiotic is found so this is quite a big step
that said - there is likely still a long way to go before it could be used in humans - but unlike things like Hygromycin-A - which was not expected to be effective against persister cells or biofilms - or the Haystead light activated targeted antibiotics - which would be - but at present need light to penetrate through the entire host tissues.
this is a drug specifically for chronic infections that have already had the chance to build up biofilms and populations persister cells and doesn't need x-rays or light beams to activate it
looks like ys at animal trails stage - so its like a good way from being used in the clinic - but i thought it worth a mention anyway
