Hello all,
My 11 yer old daughter has had headaches almost daily since November of last year.
Her symptoms started with passing out at school while seated at her desk, after lunch.
She said she saw black spots and fell over. When she came to, she was weak and dizzy.
I picked her up from school and took her to urgent care, where she complained of continued dizziness and weakness. The nurse noticed she had a slow pulse and irregular heartbeat.
We were sent to the ER, where they did a CT scan, ruled her fainting a side effect of a sinus infection and sent us home.
She remained weak, dizzy and headachy for the next week. The weakness and dizziness faded, the headaches stayed.
She finished a course of antibiotics for the sinus infection, a secondary round of antibiotics for a lymph node infection...still headaches.
We have had her vision checked, and she wears glasses now. they did not solve the problem.
She shrugs off adult strength Tylenol, Motrin, even Aleve without blinking an eye...these were given under the advice of her Doctor.
An EEG revealed slower than normal brain activity, and a MRI showed a small cyst in her left temporal lobe, described as an incidental finding and not the cause of the headaches.
She is rating her pain anywhere from a 5 to an 8, and will often wake up in the middle of the night complaining of pain.
Her neurologist recommends an anti seizure medication for headache relief, but the side effects I've read about outweigh the benefits.
I'm at my wit's end, and could really use some advice.
Thank you!!!!
