Anyone here get good relief from Occipital nerve blocks, my pm is going to give me a try at these for my migraines.
This will be my first nerve block for headaches and wondered if anyone here had, had them done?
Hopefully to get this scheduled soon...However, I have several things that cause my headaches, and really wonder if this injection will help because of the many things that contribute to my migraines, Enlarged pituatary gland, 4mm Chiari, AutoImmune RA, Allergies, Asthma, Sjogren's, and fibromyalgia...Basically I wake up with a headache and I go to bed with a headache for me it never goes away ever it's always there, just sometimes just not as bad...you do get used to a headache when you always have it, just somedays are harder...
Just was wonder if anyone had these and your success with them...

I feel your pain! I get headaches everyday as well. I have no advice for you, just wanted to tell you I feel your pain! You're not alone.

I actually was thinking about a Botox shot. My wife's friend said it worked for about three months. Not bad... She had terrible migraines.

I haven't been on the forum for a long time, but was looking in for someone/something else when I saw this.

I could be the poster child for nerve blocks, including occipital. Do they work? absolutely. I no longer get them from my neuro, I go to my pain specialist. Because of the way insurance works, I have to have 3 done before I could get a radio frequency/rhizotomy/RF (pick your term, they all apply).

The doctor may feel for the occipital notch, or they may feel for the area the elicits the greatest pain response from you. He/She will inject a solution of a "caine" plus a cortisone of some sort into that area. Does it hurt?, it depends on a lot of things, but it generally is one of those things where I wiggle my toes and all is fine. I've never needed a preliminary injection to numb the area.

The relief from the injection may only last a few days; this is not a reason to get discouraged!; it means that the right nerve is targeted and treating the area is effective. From there you can progress to a radio frequency/rhizotomy/RF which can shut those nerves down for a longer period of time.

I'm a fan; they work for me and they work well.

Thank you, I had to get it rescheduled due to a car accident, Things are now set up for Dec 19th. I've been in pain management for years now because of back problems, but this will be the first time for my migraines to get treatment. I also have multiple auto Immune diseases. Currently 5 specialists, which at times is costly for me. (RA-Asthma- enlarged pituatary gland-moderate canal stenosis lower and upper spine some degenative disc-fibromyalgia-sjogren's-just recently within this past year dx with migraines and a daughter with a dx of migraines and RA doctor think I need a pulmary(sp?) doctor).
I appreciate all your help thank you.
