This is the story of how I got my life back. I hope this post can l help someone in a similar situation. Sorry for the length.
I suffered with migraines for 6 to 7 years. I was taking 8 prescription medications, many supplements for neurological health (GABA, B vitamins, lipoic acid etc.), and I was on a low histamine (DAO supplements) and ketogenic diet for 2 years. My life was ruled by migraines. I went to bed and woke up at the same time, drank lots of water, exercised while fasting to kick-off ketosis, didn’t drink alcohol, everything was about preventing an attack. I lived in constant fear.
After I adopted all those changes I was getting 6 to 7 migraines per month, which was an improvement from the previous average of 13 per month. On the last year I suffered with migraines, I visited the ER 4 times. My neurologist couldn’t understand why the inflammation wouldn’t go down. He would prescribe cortisone if the migraines lasted more than 5 days.
My cognitive symptoms were getting worse to the point I had problem reading, driving, and finding words when speaking. I couldn’t remember what day of the week it was. Finally, I was hit by extreme fatigue. Taking showers, cooking, getting out of bed, everything was very difficult. My blood test came back normal, except for B6 toxicity. So my GP told me to go on a low B6 diet, and that was it.
I knew what I was feeling was caused by more than B6 toxicity. I knew I was at risk of losing my job because of the severe brain fog and fatigue. For three weeks I searched the internet for an explanation. Until I finally found a channel on YouTube hosted by a doctor saying he was curing migraines with antibiotics.
I was in shock. How could it be? I watched dozens of testimonies of people being treated for lupus, arthritis, migraines and fibromyalgia with antibiotics. It turns out that those people were in fact suffering from lyme disease. Even though I don’t remember being bit by a tick, and I don’t live in a tick infected area, my symptoms were a perfect match with the symptoms of neuro lyme.
I’ve been in treatment for 8 months, and I don’t take any medication aside from antibiotics. I can eat, sleep, and do whatever I want without the fear of getting a migraine. The fatigue and cognitive issues are gone but I still get “flare ups” caused by the bacteria, but they are mild in comparison and I can function.
I wonder how many people are misdiagnosed like me. I have posted more information under the lyme disease forum.
Wishing you all a better health.
