Has anyone else had any side effect from Aimovig?

I finally find enough courage to take the Aimovig shot.

I took it Wed. today is Sunday. I am awfully sleepy and my depression is heavy.

Yes, I am having a sad time with a my husband leaving me, although I was prepared for this and I feel that this situation has not it me all at once.

I am 99.9% sure it is the shot. I am keeping track of the days, of the depression.

NO information anyway for side effect because it is no new. I have the feeling it is counter acting with my Effexor

I will call the doc sometime this coming week.

Today is Monday.

The heavy depression is gone and constipation is much less.

I must clarify that my head pain is unique in that I do not have just Migraines. I have full range from cluster to complex migraines and everything in between. I will never be pain free.

However, doc and I are hoping for a level 2-3 which would be as no pain to me.

Today I did too much physical activity so now I have a level 6.

I have 2 weeks to monitor my pain levels to see if the Aimovig is doing anything before I renew script.

I may just stay with lidocaine nerve blocks monthly.

Staying open minded.

Hi Trina.
I’m sorry of your side effects of the Aimovig. I’m glad after a few days it is a little better. I started with 1 shot of 70 mg. That didn’t do much for me. By the last week, I had a tremendous migraine. Then since, I have had 2 months of the 140mg dose. My diagnosis is chronic intractable migraine and Hemicrania Continua.
Just last month, as I measure my headache status daily, my headache speacialiist said I was 30% better last month. It has taken 3 months to get there. I still get migraines. Level 5-7. Not usually 9-10 like in the past.
Give it a little time. It may not happen in the first month. Some people say it does. If this isn’t helping for you, The is a second CGRP that just came out 9/16/18 called Ajovy that works a little different. You are lucky the nerve blocks monthly help. That is a positive step.

Hi Trina,

I'm currently at 12 days since I took my second monthly dose of Aimovig, without any particular complications. My med list should be in my signature and I haven't had any reason to think there have been any drug interactions. I was astonished to have 3 migraine-free days in the week following day 19 since the first injections. I had literally forgotten what it feels like to not have a migraine every day.

I encourage you to not worry too much about interactions, to whatever extent that it's possible. Although Aimovig has only been available for about four and a half months, there's already a lot of data about patient experiences from the many clinical trials of Aimovig and several other very similar medications to people's experiences since it became available in May. And Effexor is commonly used by people with chronic migraine, so I would think that we'd know if the two interact by now, though I certainly don't know for sure.

I think the most important (and most difficult) thing to do is just wait and see what happens (which should be an option to just about everyone now, considering the manufacturer is offering at least two months of it for free, as you probably know).

Since I started taking it, I've had a very hard time not jumping to conclusions whenever I experience minor changes. And I keep switching between feeling very optimistic and very pessimistic (three migraine-free days a month is so much better than what I'm used to, but that feels like a bit of a tease, a taste of being less debilitated, making it very difficult to accept the migraine days as 'normal,' which has been the way I've needed to think in order to stay somewhat active when my pain level never drops below an 8 (or maybe a 7 on the migraine-free days I've had).

Anyway, keep us posted, if you feel like it. Your headache disorder seems nearly as ridiculous as mine, so we both know how hard it is to stay positive, especially during extra stressful periods. I wish you tranquility and relief.

FYI, another one was approved in the last week and three are available now following the release of Galcanezumab (Emgality)

Hi Trina and Ben-
1st- thank you Ben for the info on the third CGRP. Always good to know there’s something else to try if necessary.
2nd- sorry Trina I went off on a tangent yesterday. My side effects to Aimovig, I believe,- diarrhea the day I give myself the injections, worsening constipation and worsening dry mouth.
Got a migraine today but wanted to share that.

Ben I totally get the positive to pessimistic. Hard to stay stable when something seems to work after so long.

However if this doesn't then, I can always go back to the lidocaine blocks with THC oil which did ok, but was expensive. for the oil

Just ordered my Aimovig refill for 2nd shot. Yesterday migraine level 8 Trigeninal Pain and Cluster Pain.
But was reduced with a heat pack easier than usual.

Thats was a nice surprise. Hope springs eternal.

My migraines have gotten worse since Aimovig. Neuro says to give it more time. I'm actually in the ER now as these 69 days of migraines are intolerable. I'm bummed!

Welcome to the forum, my migriane increased again, back to normal and worse during a extended patch of bad weather.

However, I have promised my Neuoro., whom I do trust , that I would try it one more month.
Like any drug I suppose your body must get use to it.

Carol,, go on a tangent, that is what we are here for! We all do once and while at least! it feels good doesn't especially when others get it!

Ben, the voice of reason, thank you so much for helping me and most likely others, to put my feet on the ground. If Aimovig is not for me, I have another option, and for that I am most grateful.

Hi Trina,
I put lidocaine over the counter stuff on my neck. It takes about two hours to work, but it does seem to. FYI.

no apologies necessary we all need to let loose some time.

took my 2nd shot of Aimovig 10/26. today 10/29/18 my pain is a 7 at 3pm

Side effects are less. No constipation. Dry mouth is less, but other meds give me dry mouth to .

I see my neuro on 11/12. I am going to tell him this drug is not for me. The lidocaine shots worked much better. JONWA I have tried the lidocaine patches on my neck but it does nothing for my head pain. [see my dx under signature] I have damage to nerves from childhood abuse that is progressing with age.

I wish other a better response with this. I believe it would work with 15days or less headaches a month.

Hi all,

I took my second shot of Aimovig on 10/26.

Had 2 Complex Migraines since. Last week the 2nd one stared at the of Support group. A member drove me to the ER. 4hours later, my pain was still an 8 and the weakness on left side was still pronounced, though I could talk a little clearer.
So the admitted me at 6pm, By 7pm I was screaming in pain, I can not explain the level, except that I my head was hit by an axe, it would have relieved the pain.
So they started 4mg of morphine by shot, every for hours as needed. Took 18 hours to bring my pain down to a 3.
I told them my pain was gone when my strength return to right side, I was released on 3rd day. My face on left side droops, just a bit more.
I see my neuro tomorrow. He would like to double the Aimovig. NO, I want my lidocaine nerve blocks back. that with weed, I was down to a 5 most days. Managable.
He will do what I want if I listen to him first. My pondered opinion is this drug is mostly for people with 15-20 migraines a month and/or with 2 or less diagnosis's, not 3-4 like myself. I feel, physically, it blocks my maintenance meds from working.

Just my side of a million stories.
