I have numbness in my right heel and my toes, especially when driving, tingle and feel numb.  I am having, and forgive me/ I am NOT good w/ medical terms, a "doppler test" on Tuesday.  I also have tingling in my left hand/fingers and experience "discomfort" in both my upper legs.  Last August I was diagnosised w/ Ulcerative Colitis.  I came down w/ UC because I quit smoking. I went back to smoking and the UC symptoms are 85% in remission.  However, I do have the numbness in my right heel, toes/especially when I drive become tingly/numb and both legs feel like  the circulation isn't in sink.  My hands, especially my left will "tingle" at times.  What do you think?  Your input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Gigi,

Welcome to the MS board. If you are still smoking then certainly you probably don't have your circulation in synch. With MS, numbness and tingling usually don't come and go. I have numbness in both feet from about the mid shins down. This was caused be damage to either my brain or spinal cord from demyelination. Once my feet went numb, they have never come back. Since this was due to a flare, they have gotten some better over a two year period but there is no "coming and going" that you describe. I also have some very slight but constant numbness in my left hand. It can get worse if I hold something in that hand for too long (like the phone :) but again that baseline numbness is always there. I would let your doctor know of these symptoms but I really don't think you have MS. Remember that I am not a doctor and that is just my opinion. I wish you the very best of luck.

I am glad t hear that your UC is much better. I would talk to your doctor about ways you could quit smoking and keep that UC under control.

Gigi,
Your post caught my eye. I don't have UC, but I do have something -- just don't
know what it is.
I was surprised when you wrote that your UC improved 85% when you returned
to smoking. If it should be that smoking is not for you, you might want to try
Nicorette Gum. It really really helps me. I simply can't function. It helps everything.
I know I know .. it causes Cancer, but still...

Thank you both for your responses.  It puts my mind at ease and we will find out tomorrow w/ my tests.  Honestly, I didn't feel that it was MS, but MS did cross my mind - thus the post.  I know smoking is not good for me or anyone.  I tried the patch and the gum, but it didn't improve my UC.  I wish you the best!

Hi there,
I don't smoke but my co-worker has successfully quit because her doctor has put her on Wellbutrin. It's an anti-depressant but it also doesn't make you want to smoke! Talk to your doctor about it. Good Luck.
