Well my parents never let me change my bag by myself because my ostomie nurse told them it would make me stressed? well i told them what if i was at a friends house and something happened? they just thought i couldnt do it and they never gave me a real chance.
WELL... today i was intending to change it when my mom got home from a meeting. well the bag thought other wise. the seal came off a little and everytime i would "poo" it would leak out on to me. well i called my mom and told her im changing my bag she just told me to be careful.
My mom says i change my bag better than my dad does.
Now i have a few questions tho. i used a thing that looks like flower mix but its supost to help heal my skin my nurse told me to use it. i cleaned all around my stoma "while standing" and when it came to putting the adhesive on the bag it was easy but i got very little on my stoma is that ok? it stung a little but i think what was stinging was because my skin was still a little raw around my stoma.

congrats on job well done :) :)
i remember being so nervous too when i changed the appliance all by my self for the first time. i was just released from the hospital and the next day i had a leak. lol i was so nervous that i just stood infront of the mirror in the b/r for a whole 15 mins with a wipe in my hand not knowing even where to start. then, after i recovered from my shock, i called the hospital's stoma nurse and she guided me and i did ok. from then on, i didn't feel i needed any help any more and felt confident to do it all by my self.
i don't think a bit of adhesive on the stoma should cause major issues. it never happened to me tho, so i'm not sure, but i hope someone here will be able to give you a defenite answer about
this.
very happy for you. keep doing well!

Doesn't it feel great knowing you can do it all by yourself? I had my husband help me the first few changes but now I rip ff the old and stick on the new in 3 minutes flat!!
Don't worry about
a little bit of adhesive on your stoma, they are tougher then we think!

I remember when I started changing it myself. I would try to get in a rush and start worrying, etc. A couple of times I would breakout in a sweat and start getting dizzy like I was about
to faint.
Now I can change it in about
10 minutes. 5 min if you don't include putting on the sure seal.

YAY david! Its great when you can do it yourself!
i dont think the powder or the paste would hurt your stoma. If you dont have skin irriation though, you dont need the powder.

Way to go!!
The powder (probably Nystatin, an anti-fungal) will not hurt your stoma.
