I was resently told by my GI that I was going to have a Partial Colectomy done. He had only described what was going to happen. I won't have the bag or J. Pouch, I think. I believe that is what he had said, but he immediately left the room as I was going to ask him a couple of questions. I don't speak with the surgeon until next week.

This site has helped me out for the past couple of weeks, so I don't google it until after I get input from others on here. I like to get information from people that have dealt with it. I'm 24 years old, and I haven't had a bowel movement in a while. Just this liquid grease like water...but about a week and two days. I tried all kinds of laxative and nothing. The pain is outrageous, and I take pain medicine when I can't bare it. I have had about 12 surgeries, and I'm still kicking it.

What is it like for recovery? What is my diet going to be like? Can people still get pregnant after this type of surgery (not right after say about two years after, I have a plan for certain things)? What kind of complications will there be? I just want to know more about this before I google it.

I don't understand how you are going to poop...they will take out part of your colon like a resection and then you will still poop out of your rectum?
That is too bad the GI Dr. Walked out of the room. Can you call and get your questions answered? You really need to know all the info before you can plan your recovery. Are you taking narcotics? If so, they will cause major constipation :(. Have your other surgeries been bowel related also?
It sucks to be dealing with this at your age...I hope you have supportive friends/family

I don't understand how your GI decides your surgery? Have you not consulted with a CR surgeon?

Yes, you definitely need to talk to a surgeon.

It sounds like they are going to take out part of your colon and then hook the rest back up to your rectum. There are others here (not me) who have had that done.

Since your issue is constipation, there are tests you should have before surgery to see how your intestines function, and to make sure that you aren't still going to have the problems after surgery. I hope someone else can come along and name these tests (something about a sitz marker is one of them....), as I had the opposite problem. You might have already had all or some of them.

Make sure you fully understand before they cut into you!
