Hi Montana...I also had a colectomy for colonic inertia. I am about 4 months post-op now. I can definitely relate the the "explosive" episodes you describe. I still never figured out what causes it, some days I am gassier than others but haven't been able to pin down what it is. I DO know that when I go more, I feel better. It seems the longer stuff stays in me, the worse I feel. So I take milk of magnesia every night and it works well. During the day I mostly stick to bland foods like breads, crackers, cottage cheese, turkey...but have recently started adding nuts and more whole grains. Not feeling super tonight, but tomorrow is a new day.
Hope you start to feel better! You're still early out from surgery so don't give up...you're still adjusting :)
