Last night I went to a support group. about six months ago in the group, we were talking about possibly having the rep from Edgepark come to the group. His name is Colin, which he pronounces COLL-IN and many of us have talked to him on the phone.
Colin happened to come to a group at another hospital last month (I went to the meeting), and there was one woman there, Mabel (not her real name) who was at that meeting and also at the group last night.
So when the group ended yesterday, another woman, call her Harriet, who has a urostomy not a colostomy/ileostomy, comes running up to me, saying, "Mabel met COLON, Mabel met COLON." I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about, Mabel met a colon? (Plus I'd met Colin too). To be fair, Colin Powell is famous and pronounces his name like colon, and this woman has a bladder issue, not a colon issue, so she probably doesn't automatically hear it the way I did.... but it was pretty funny.
Would anyone who had our surgery name their kid Colin and pronounce it colon??????
