I suppose it depends on the circumstances and the surgeon. At time of surgery, I was 63 (almost 64) yrs old....VERY sick, prednisone dependent, extremely high blood pressure with prednisone induced diabetes. My surgeon wouldn't even consider lapro for me nor would he consider doing j-pouch. I told him I had no problem with the idea of wearing a bag....I just wanted my life back. He insisted I pass a stress echocardiogram before he did surgery. Thankfully, I did.
I was told my surgery lasted about an hour and a half, but they kept me in ICU a bit longer than anticipated. My hubby and daughter could not remember why, guess they didn't want to scare me. I was hospitalized 11 days and had some post surgery complications while still in the hospital, thank GOD, and received top notch care.
You cannot even see where I was stitched, not that I wear bikinis anymore
and so far (hope I don't jinx myself), have not had adhesions or blockages. This past June 28th marked my 2nd anniversary of my "new UP free life"!!!
By the way, in addition to my wonderful family, many thanks to all you supportive people in this forum with a "special" thanks to Suebear who made me "see the light!"
