35 hours left to go till surgery..what did you guys do on your last day?

Well, I can't answer your question quite yet because my surgery is not until this coming Wednesday. Sadly, my day before will be busy...I have to take my dogs to the kennel and have an appt. with the anesthesiologist. But, in the next few days I guess I'll just get all my stuff together, affairs in order, rest as much as possible and try and spend some time outside...I'm too sick to do much more than that.

Is your surgeon having you do a bowel prep the day before? I know some people have to do that and was SO glad when my surgeon said I would not!!

I didn't have to do a prep either so I just remember eating a lot! Anything I wanted because I knew my food would be restricted for a while. Good luck!

I didn't have a bowel prep either and I never understood why. I thought I was the only one because it seems everyone else says they had one. My only instructions were nothing to eat or drink after 10 pm. Surgery went totally smooth.

The day before my surgery was my kid's last day of school so I was busy with them at school for the end of year parties. Then we took the dog and the kids to a friends house to stay so my hubby could take me to the hospital first thing in the morning. Pretty busy day which was good because it got my mind off of things.

If you don't need a bowel prep, count yourself lucky! I had to take three enemas as well as two drinks, the night/morning before the surgery. The drinks contained a form of fibre and didn't do a thing, good or bad, as far as I could tell. But oh, the enemas - those were sadistic ;_; The first one was brutal but at least was over with fairly quickly. The agony from the second one lasted far longer. I almost refused to take the third one, but had a nightmare vision of the operation being cancelled due to too much poo (I had gone, but not a great deal), so took it.

I cannot remember what I ate on the last day and it was only two and a half weeks ago. It might have been a chicken and stuffing sandwich for dinner, think it was actually. Unless I'm getting mixed up with another day :-/ Anyway, I splurged slightly in the days beforehand on the grounds I didn't know what I would be able to eat afterwards.

I too had a liquid diet and bowel prep the day before surgery. The tonight before the liquid diet started I had a french fry and a sip of coke... I was on nothing but boiled chicken and white carbs for months before so that felt like a big deal to me!

The hospital will tell you to do this anyway, but take a nice thorough shower and wash your hair the day before. If you need to do anything like clip/file/polish your nails, do that too, especially toes! You won't want to bend down and deal with them for quite a while after surgery.

i had brownies and a glass of milk around 9:20. ate them while watching "The Walking Dead" i love that show. breakfast was at shoneys..it was a good fairwell lol. guess i will see you guys on the other side of things. packing a bit of clothes now and about to shower with 1/2 a bottle of some kind of anti-germ stuff the hospital requires.

I "lucked" out in not having to do any prep..i drove myself to the emergency room approx. 36 hours before surgery..they admitted me, and I stayed in hospital bed all day until surgery at 5AM the next day.

Last meal? LOL..i had a Wendy's hamburger two days prior and thought "i may not get to eat this again.." At the same Wendy's (1 mile from the hospital where I had surgery) about 2 months later, i stopped on my way back home from surgeon's office and had a hamburger again.that one tasted really good!
