Anyone Let The Risk Of Erectile Dysfunction/Bladdder Problems Stop Them Getting A J-Pouch?

So I'm now on the list for j-pouch construction, which should be done within the next 3 months. However, I'm told the aforementioned risks are 5-10%, and that's playing on my mind a bit. Has anyone here let those risks stop them going ahead?

I have not heard of any man who has not proceeded for that reason, but that doesn't mean there are none out there. I have also not heard that the stats were as high as you quoted. I'd pose this question in the General Discussion forum at www. J-pouch.org

Agree with Suebear... Think the risk of any erectile/bladder control trouble is closer to 1%. But check it out.

Yeah, 1% is the number I've heard. 5-10% might be the number who experience short term issues. Can't speak to ED but I had difficulty urinating for a couple of weeks after each surgery but it went away without any treatment.

Being female, it was infertility and bladder problems. I wouldn't be thrilled to end up with a urostomy or a bladder problem after surgery. Infertility has treatments (even if that means egg extractiona and surrogate).

I didn't give it much though, but both seem acceptable in exchange for getting my colon out.

My Colon is no longer a problem as I already have a sub-total colectomy with end ileostomy. It's the rectum having to be removed for j-pouch attachment that creates the risk.

Obvious problem with taking it to J pouch.org is that anyone who decided against surgery wouldn't be on that board. There are many posts on the men's forum at J pouch about e d. It is definitely a possibility but not common. Another problem is retrograde ejaculation which can be an issue and a big one if one is considering having children. Many of the issues resolve over the year following surgery but a small % have permanate issues, which vary in seriousness

hey mate im a 21 year old male and had my proctolectomy and j pouch creation/attatchment in one shot

i was scared of the possible erectile problems but my surgeon assured me it was such a small chance to not even worry about it

in the hospital after 3 days i had a boner with the catheter in ( not real comfy lol) have had absolutely 0 problems in that department.

even when you research it you find very few people actually have this problem

also 5-10% is absolutely rediculous. 1 in 10 people have erectile dysfunction after j pouch surgery with that percentage. i think not..... try < 1%
