First time posting in the Ostomies section, but I'm a long-time member of the UC section. Have been successfully maintaining remission for years. Oddly enough, this post is on behalf of my husband.
Last Friday morning, I had to take him to the ER with severe abdominal pain. A CT showed an extremely inflamed, possibly ruptured appendix and possibly some other masses. He had emergency surgery that afternoon. His appendix had ruptured and detached and had floated across to attach to the descending colon. He also had some cancerous masses. Everything was removed and he was given a colostomy on the left side.
His recovery has gone really well up until this morning. He was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon. This morning, he started having gas, heartburn and vomited a little. Later, he felt better and ate some scrambled eggs. Had a little chicken noodle soup at lunch and started burping and feeling nauseated again.
Is this fairly normal when dealing with a new colostomy? He is on two types of antibiotics and oxycontin for pain. Could these be making him feel sick? Is there anything I can give him to help with the gas and nausea? He's been through so much, I'm trying to keep him as comfortable as possible.
Thanks,
Angela
