I had a loop ilieostomy done 2/2/12 and my reversal was done on 1/23/14. I promised myself if my experience with the reversal was good I would post the results. I was afraid that after having my bag for almost 2 years that my recovery from the reversal would be difficult. I didn't run across too many success stories while searching the web.
My surgery went well and I had my first BM on 1/26/14. While in the hospital I was on a liquid diet and after the first BM I was switched to soft foods. When I came home (1/29/14) I continued the soft diet but would sneak bites of other foods like steak and pizza. Once I realized I did okay with certain food items I reintroduced these foods to my diet. As for the bowel movements I pretty much returned to normal within 2 weeks. In the beginning the most I would go in a day was 8-10 times. It slowly tapered to 3-5 times a day and now I may go 2-3 times.
Lucky for me I'm retired and didn't have to rush my recovery. I have to watch my dairy and fiber intake because they seem to cause blockages. I had a few and they were awful, but that was the extent of any real problems I had with my reversal.
I'm not on any medication (now or before the surgeries) and did not have to use Imodium. I know everyone's situation is different, however this was my experience. I know my post may not be thorough enough for some, but I will answer any questions you may have.
