Wha do you clean your stoma with?

I use to use warm water with the complementary wipes (given by the suppliers of my pouches but, they never sent me enough.) So I now use baby wipes with Aloe Vera in them and then dry off with paper towel. Just wondered what others use to clean there stoma when not having a shower or bath

      I only clean it when I change bags too.  I use the pump soap and water and then just water.  I have to work fast though because my stoma loooooves to poop.  I find that first thing in the mornings work for me....that way the stoma is still half asleep .

Am I the only one who assumed that chronielass was talking about cleaning the stoma during bag changes? I could be wrong, but I think she uses a 1-piece. You can't really reach the stoma with a 1-piece unless you take the whole thing off and once you've done that, you can't put it back on again.

Me, firstly I mop up the crap on the stoma with tissues. I then use hot water and a complimentary wipe (that's the gauze, right, chronielass?) to clean up. If there's gunk from the rubber seal, I might use adhesive remover, but otherwise I just stick to the hot gauze. Then use a few sheets of kitchen paper to make sure the skin is as dry as a bone.

I tend to keep the bag on during a shower now. I used to worry about giving the stoma air time but I can't be bothered with that anymore. It doesn't seem to make any difference to the skin.

I don't feel a "need" to use soap, it's just that when I shower I wash my body with soap- my abdomen is part of my body, when I shower I just soap up everything & rinse really well. I asked my WOCN nurse about using soap, I'd heard only water. But she said as long as I rinse well, it's fine. I don't use any adhesive removers or anything. I don't wash the stoma at all, just let the water blast any poop off! Crohnielass, are you talking about when you change your whole set-up?

I use Safe n Simple stoma wipes to clean off the dirt. Its also nice and easy to carry in an emergency bag in case you at a place with no water.

At home I also just use plain ivory soap and warm water around the skin. I use a paper towel cut into 4 squares so I can just toss out after the use. ! square I wet and rub soap on it and two squares I dampen with warm water for rinsing. Additional squares are used to pat dry and hold around my stoma if it get a bit active during the change.
