Small ulcer under wafer

A little stoma powder and preventing anymore leaks. Are you talking about something like an Eakins seal? I used them with my Ileo and highly recommend em!

I also use a wafer that is moldable…my ostomy nurse told me to think of it like a turtleneck! The one I have right now is from Convatec, 404593. Works well for me and no more stool on my skin. I was starting to get irritation and burning right around my stoma, and she recommended using this before it got any worse.

I'm confused though, are you putting a bandaid under the wafer? I've never heard of that before (of course I'm still relatively new to all of this stuff).

For me personally, the moldable stuff is working great, whatever brand you use, give it a try. You sure don't want that area getting any worse!

Christina - Surely you remember PolishDan and the effort he spent promoting "Friar's Balsam Compound Benzoin Tincture". Dan also took great pains in detailing how to apply the ileo appliances. I tried to find one of his detailed posts. He literally posted hundreds of times and I couldn't find the one I wanted.

Balsams Benzoin is available from Canada. Look up wellca.com. It comes in a small (100 mil) bottle and costs around $30. I believe you can also find it on Amazon.com or something equivalent. A small bottle will last many months. Anyway, it's applied with a q-tip to the skin around the stoma. It's very sticky and is also antiseptic. Stings for a few seconds but worth the effort. There are two guarantees...1. it will heal your skin and 2. it will give you 6-7 day wear time with your wafer.

Since learning about this from PolishDan a few years ago, I have absolutely no problems with my appliance.

Oh, I also use this in conjunction with the Eakin Seal...turtle necked.

Thank you! I do remember Polish Dan posting about that tincture. If Medicare pays for it, I will order it from Edgepark...but, there is so much friggin red tape we have to go through with Medicare..ugh. I broke my foot two weeks ago...last week I realized, even with this knee high boot, if I do extensive walking...like on the boardwalk in AC...I need a wheel chair. Now to try to get Medicare to pay for it!!! I have been going back and forth..calling my orthopedic surgeon's office, calling Lincare (the wheel chair provider), calling Medicare...back and forth, back and forth...forms to be signed, scripts that weren't properly faxed. Are the people employed these days just so incompetent or what? OY!

I hope it works for you. I did the crusting with stoma powder and Cavillon for a while, but once I tried the Compound Tincture Benzoin, I never looked back.

I now use a Hollister gel barrier wipe on the outter area where I stop with the CTB. Not sure I really need it, but I really like the gel and I use Coloplast Barrier Strips, so I use it as a precaution. I don't want to ever develop a sensitivity to these strips because I love them.

OK...using the tincture, still have that ulcer and it bleeds. The last time I changed my wafer, day before yesterday, I put the tincture on and a tiny bandaid on top. I did this because the moldable barrier is right on top of the ulcer and I think it irritated the ulcer . Do you put the stoma powder on top of the tincture? I did, but not sure if I should have..lol.

Ok, so I never had any luck with the tincture, but not sure if I ever had the correct stuff???

What is the correct order number for Edgepark and I'll order some?

I have had good luck with Coloplast Brava protective sheets. They are squares. I just cut the hole for the stoma, then stick that down, then apply the wafer over atop that. That really healed all my icky skin. I only use the protective sheets until the skin is all healed.

Sensi care also has an adhesive remover wipe and a skin protectant wipe that works really well even though I prefer the cavilon no sting barrier wipe.

There is also Marathon for sores on skin. It is purple and works really well. It is expensive though and I would only use it on the sore itself. It just might work to heal the skin.

I have also found alternating products is good for my skin. I use Hollister, then Stomocur, then Coloplast, then back to Hollister. I have weird skin and have to do this with soaps, deodorants, and shampoos, etc. I have no idea why. I seem to develop allergies if I don't rotate products. I'm so strange!!! Lol :)
