There is Hope

It has been a while since I last posted, but I am checking in to say hello and give some hope to those who are still at the end of their ropes. I just celebrated five years with my ileostomy last month, and completed my Master's degree on the same day. After struggling with UC for 14 Years, getting a permanent ileostomy, suffering through pyoderma gangrenosum and severe allergies for months, then having revision surgery to correct all of the issues, I came out on the other side. It was pure hell for a long time, but there is hope. I am grateful to post as a success story and someone who leads a completely normal life post permanent ileostomy.

I also remember you. I have had my ileostomy for over six years. I do have some issues, my disease is back in my anus. This occurred in 2014 and my new surgeon (mine retired in 2013) suggests yearly biopsies but NO surgery. I am doing well with the proctofoam and, hopefully, by September, the disease will subside. I am not in a lot of discomfort, but have mucus, which comes out my vagina, believe it or not. The doctor agrees I probably have a recto vaginal fistula, but since I do not defecate from that area, there is no concern for infection.

Life is wonderful!!! Soooo much better than suffering with UC!!!
