Hate this ileostomy and now have hernia

I had an ileostomy done Dec.2015. I went thru a terrible depression after surgery but I have Never stopped hating this freaky minster. Can't wear the clothes I have always loved. Can't use the one piece bags because they leak. Started having severe cramping under right rib cage and in pit of my stomach recently. Found out I have a hernia now. I still have occasional bowel movements per rectum, so I feel that my colon must be working some anyway again. I just want this awful monster closed and hernia repaired. I just don't know if my doctors at Mayo will agree. The ones on the forum that have had the reversal, was this Your idea or your doctor's? Please reply.

What was your ileostomy for? You've had the ileo for long enough that you should be a candidate for reversal by now, I would have thought. But that's something you need to discuss with your doctors, along with hernia repair. If you are not a candidate for reversal, then hernia repair is even more important. Have you tried convex wafers? Different brands? I wore a 1-piece Coloplast Sensura and the wafer stuck to my skin like glue - no leaks with that. There's also things like rubber seals, powder, flange extenders, etc. Experimenting is a pain up the ass, but it is worth doing if the end result is a setup which you can trust. I found the powder an absolute waste of time, but rubber seals essential. (And I didn't need flange extenders, but they may be more useful with a hernia actually.)
