It has been about eight days since my second surgery. I now have the j pouch and a loop ileostomy. Take down is in may yay! But in the meantime holy crap I am having such awful cramping especially during the night. What can I do to relieve this? I don't ever remember feeling sp crampy after my first surgery. I'm on vicadin now and it doesn't seem to help. Would Xanax help maybe relax my bowels? It's horrible , any advice is welcome thanks :(

Yikes, do the cramps come in spasm type pains that is not a good thing and can be small bowel adhesions. If just normal cramps likely not as serious. Hope not. Good luck. Rosemary

I'm sorry it's horrible! As I didn't have UC...I didn't have this 3step procedure for a Jpouch. From my understanding from this forum and from couple of acquaintances in my life....the second one might be the hardest of all. The small bowel doesn't like to be handled and due that this 2nd step is the manipulation of the small bowel and creation of the jpouch...harder recovery.

If the current pain meds aren't working, call doctor and request stronger ones. Try to eat well to keep your stamina and walk everyday, with each day alittle farther. Rest when tired and you'll get through this. Much strength and good luck with each progressing day!!!!!

The pouch-creation is definitely the most difficult op to get over. Windy city is right, the small intestine does not like to be manipulated and fummbled around with, and it had a real job done to it. I had strange feelings there at night while I was in the hospital but the pain pump kept all pain 98% at bay.
Crosby, I cannot tell if you are a man or a woman. If you are a woman then why couldn't the cramps be part of your cycle? I started getting cramps for days before my period, my cycle was so out of wack from the surgery. And I couldn't really differentiate where the pain was coming from, it was just right there.

I am a woman yes. And my period has definitely been INCREDIBLY out of wack. But I am certain that these are not menstrual cramps.  I did get ahold of my doctor and was told that this cramping is normal since not only were my small bowels moved around and pissed off but so were other organs around them.  In fact, since getting pregnant is such a difficult thing to do after conquering these surgeries, my surgeon believes in pulling the ovaries more superficial to the body and out of the way.  This way, his theory is that the egg will have less farther to travel and be more of the way if any more complications were to happen with the surgery itself.  So the cramping is not only from my bowels but it's also just from my gut area in general, since everything is just trying to settle down and reaquaintance itself.  Thanks for all your support you guys.
