I always opt for the pat down because I've already had my 65 Grays radiation for breast cancer and at least a dozen CT scans, and I don't want any rads I can refuse. There's never a woman available within a reasonable length of time to come do the pat down, although there are plenty just standing around gabbing.
So, I'm waiting, and waiting, and waiting, off to the side, and another woman comes along who wants a pat down. She gets to wait too. Several minutes later another woman comes along carrying a little dog. She gets waived through and we stand there waiting some more.
Eventually two women come along to do my pat down. While the second opt out woman still waits. No, I don't need a private room to be patted in and lose sight of my purse and little bag which are still sitting on the conveyor belt.
At least the pat down worker changed into fresh gloves!
