Before my ileostomy in 2007, I was on Norvasc (a CC blocker) for BP control. At the time of my ileostomy, the Cleveland Clinic switched me to Metroprolol (a beta blocker)saying that Calcium Channel blockers don't work well for ileostomates due to absorption issues. Last year, my family doctor added Hydrochlorthiazide (water pills) since he felt I needed an additional medication. The Metroprolol and the water pills work fairly well together - but are starting to cause some issues.
I don't think water pills are a good idea for ileostomates since we are already easily dehydrated.
What have you found for BP control that doesn't make you jittery, doesn't raise your heart rate?
Any help will be appreciated!
