Day 4 post-colectomy

So I had surgery on Wednesday evening, 4 days post-op and I'm feeling pretty good! I'd my colon fully removed and he left the rectum, which is stapled against the lowest incision I had. I have three other incisions, plus my belly button & the ileostomy, but they're all very small.
I'd some pain complications at the beginning, was in recovery for a while trying to get it under control and the first night was bad also. Day 2 got much better and I can feel myself improving each day! Still get quite a lot of pain but they are managing it. I'm trying to move a bit to loosen myself up, I get stiff easily and the gas they pumped in during surgery cause me a lot of pain also.
Unfortunately I found out yesterday that I have a UTI, possibly from the catheter I had in for two days. It's agony to urinate, probably due surgery also. But it was caught quickly so hopefully it won't hinder my recovery.
I'm not eating too well yet, but they're telling me to just take it easy and my body will tell me when I'm ready. I've been having liquid things mainly but I had a bit of solid food yesterday & it sat ok so I'm getting there slowly!
Ileostomy is working great! Started outputting just over twelve hours after surgery. Today & yesterday I changed it completely myself, which I'm so proud of! It stayed on fine all day yesterday & didn't leak so hopefully today will go ok too!
The nurses say I'm doing great, especially with the care of it & the mental state I'm in. I'm accepting it very well because I was so sick for so long & I know this will give me my life back! I'm very happy with it so far & optimistic that it will continue to go well!!

Hello! I also had surgery bright and early Thursday morning. Mine however was step one of a j pouch surgery. I'm doing pretty well too. My catheter is supposed to come out today. I'm hoping I don't get a uti also! Did they have to recath you after that or no? Also, do you feel the need to pee with the catheter out? I have not had that peeing sensation with it in! I've also just been snacking a little here and there. I'm very picky so I have not really been eating what they bring me. My parents just bring me snacks from the cafeteria. My doctor wants the consistency in my bag to go from liquid to more of an applesauce. Glad your doing well! Hopefully we will both be discharged and home soon!

Amanda, glad to hear your doing well post-surgery too! They didn't recath me when I got the uti, I'm just on antibiotics. A few hours after they took the cath out (which didn't hurt at all if you're worried!) I just felt like I needed to pee normally again, no issues. It was a bit sore then but got worse over the day. I had a couple of issues with my cath though, after my surgery I felt like I was bursting to go and turns out it was a bui twisted so wasn't draining but they fixed it. The next night this happened again and I had to stand up to let it drain down. So maybe that contributed to my uti, as the pee was just sitting in it.

My output is still very liquidy. This morning there were a few bits in if & the nurse said it was probably from eating some solid foods yesterday and it will continue to thicken. I've had a bit more solid stuff today, some bread with soup & a biscuit so I imagine it will continue to thicken as I eat more food.
