It's been one year since my takedown surgery. I thought for sure I would end up with a poorly functioning pouch due to all of the issues I had with the pouch healing, but that is not the case. I don't keep track, but I would say I have 3-5 BMs a day. I never get up during the night. I was drinking metamucil every day, but now it backs me up too much. My stool was always on the thick side even when I had the ostomy.
I had a scope done on Wednesday. Pouch looks healthy except for moderate cuffitis. The only symptom I have with that is I see blood on the TP from time to time. Also, the sinus that I had for the LONGEST time was finally successfully repaired by Dr. Shen's needle knife procedure. I had 8 surgeries in total in three years. Those three years were very dark for me. A lot of pain and depression.
I am a registered nurse that works on a busy cardiac unit in Detroit. I run around for 12, sometimes 16 hours shifts. I started lifting weights. I am getting married in July and I hope to apply to graduate school for 2016! There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
