UC had colon removed two months ago. The 8" of rectum is still very diseased. With 20mg steroids I was putting out about
1/8 cup of blood every 45 minutes. From 8" of rectum. The GI doc and surgeon finally saw the light after a mini scope. Thank god.
I am so excited. I just had to share. I am 50 and am ok with having a bag until I die. Not a biggie. Just hate bleeding 10-20 times a day.
AS a side note. I am taking 2.5mg percocet 203 times a day which halts the urgency.

Good luck! I had my rectum removed & sewn shut at the same time as my ileo surgery- truthfully, that was the worst part, slowest to heal, etc. Most ppl. will say that, the rectum removal is NOT easy! Not very much blood circulation in that area, so healing is slow, etc. But with patience & a decent WOCN, you should be fine. I found taking sitz baths with epsom salts 2-3x a day helped too. Overall, it took a good 4-6 months to fully heal, but now, 2 years post-op it doesn't trouble me in the least. I'm 45, & also have no qualms about
life with a bag.. When is the surgery scheduled?

Good Luck with your surgery...honestly, it was my best 40th Birthday gift!!
Permanent closure? Or, just the rectum removal (leaving anus)? Either way take it easy and rest!!
Let us know how you are doing
