After 10 months my husband is on mirapex at .75 mg 3x times a day.Its is not helping at all.What kind of pills at a year's time are you all on,I know everyone case is different.

Waterloo,

You are correct that everyone is different regarding medications. If your husband isn't satisfied with his meds, talk to his doctor.

 

Secondly, is your husband seeing a neurologist? Is he seeing a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders - a movement disorder specialist or MDS? If you have access to a MDS, I would strongly encourage you to make an appointment with him/her.

 

And to answer your question re: meds, I was diagnosed in 2001 and took 4 mg of Requip for my first 2-ish years. Requip and Mirapex are both dopamine agonists, but the dosage is not the same. (You can't compare .75 mg of Mirapex to .75 mg of Requip.) Today I take 18 mg of Requip XL. I have been VERY fortunate to have had a slow progression. I still work full-time, have a PD support group, exercise regularly and am very involved in other PD activities.

I definitely agree with Lizzy......be sure neuro is a MDS. The first neuro I went to was not a MDS. He prescribed sinemet. Wrong way to start due to side effects. Found a MDS. He changed my med to Azilect. It has been shown to slow progression of PD. It has also helped with symptoms. I also take artane to help with tremors. One azilect and one artane each day.

Azilect is expensive. This year retail price is $12.50 PER PILL! But I feel it works...for me. Artane is very cheap.

I'm on .75 mirapex 4x along with stalevo 100mg 4x.This works for me ,and enables me to be somewhat active.There is nothing closer to the truth that we all exhibit different symptoms,and respond differently to pd drugs.I
If mirapex doesn't work for your husband be sure ,and tell your neuro.Don't just quit mirapex you have to taper off it .To do otherwise will cause serious medical problems.Wish you,and your husband the best .Ed
