Hi all.  I guess I should tell you that my friend was confirmed to have thyroid cancer.  She had her surgery and it was removed.  Her post op report stated the cancer was all removed and had negative margins and will have no further treatments.  And by the way when I went to visit her I stepped off the elevator and headed down the hallway and I came face to face with a guy walking in a hospital gown and had his catheter bag  in his hand. This was the first time back in a hospital after my surgery.  I got weak in the knees when I saw this guy.  Man what a flashback.  I had even forgot about that thing.  My daughter is home from New York this week and we went to the Y and ran into Lee and Buddy.  It was really great seeing them.  I promised them I would get back in the Y with more regularity.  Everything is going good even on the ED front.  I still wear a pad just for those rare occasions that I strain or bend over and get a small spurt.  The pad is essentially dry.  Take care everyone.

So strange.  My good friend's mom just had surgery for thyroid cancer too.  She has to have additional treatment.  It sounds pretty intense.  She has to be in a room by herself for three days because of the treatment potency.  Anyways, hope your friend continues to deal well.

Hi Mika:  Good to hear from you.  Yes, sometimes it seems like this cancer thing is going around like the d*mned flu.  I too have a couple of dear friends (a married couple with a 12-year-old) who have recently been through rough surgeries.  The wife is preparing for her second round of chemo at this time.  I can relate to your "flashback" thing too.  I'm going in for repair of bilateral inguinal hernias on April 4th and visiting the surgeon's office -- getting the pre-op instructions etc. -- has brought back enough memories to get my palms sweating a bit. 

But at least my surgery is not about cancer this time, so my head is screwed on reasonably straight.

AND -- not to downplay what anyone has been through here, but thank God, our initial PCa therapies tend to be much more tolerable than what I’ve watched my two friends go through for esophageal and colon cancer.

Hi Mika,

Glad your friend is making a good recovery from the surgery. That is good news about the negative margins and no further treatment needed.  It is indeed a weird thing,  as we too are currently visiting a hospital supporting a good friend with cancer,  so I guess my hubby must be feeling somewhat odd too. I know I am,  as we visit the hospital (but not the ward), where hubby was nearly 12 months ago. It is a little unsettling until we arrive at our destination,  when we forget it, and have quality time with our friend.

Great news on your recovery front too Mika. Good luck and wishing you much less stressful times for the rest of this year. All the best, Lana & CJ.

Quote taken from previous thread 2-8-08: Another friend with cancer I got a call yesterday from another friend and co-worker from my old office who told me she has been told there is a good chance she has thyroid cancer.  She is scheduled for surgery to remove it a week from this Tuesday.  This young lady is about thirty years old and has two small little girls.  Her youngest is about 7 months old, about the age of my grandson.  We lost another friend from my old office last year from breast cancer and can't believe this is happening again to one of my friends.  Please pray for her and her family.   Mika   Mika, Great news that things have gone well for your friend...   We are continuing to keep her close in thoughts and prayers as she is surrounded by family and friends… and on the healing/recovery road. It was great meeting your daughter.   What a precious young lady!!   She sure loves her dad… and only wants the best for him.   Yes ~ the Y! is a must.    We love you and Dale and we all want your health to stay strong….   Hugs from Lee & Buddy
