First Post treatment PSA / Cheerleaders Needed

Hi friends,


Well, my first big day after IG/IMRT is Tuesday, that's when I get my first PSA since completing radiation treatment.

So far my health has been just OK. The side effects with peppers is under control and my flow control is fine. I do need to come off the Hytrin and have cut back to just two a week. I just don’t know about stopping it all together. I talked with my RO Tuesday and he said “just stop taking the Hytrin”. I asked what about blood pressure and stopping Hytrin and he didn’t know the answer, as to if Hytrin would change or if it does control BP in any way. I found out that it does and is also used as a BP med. I have started to check my BP and have notices that since I have started taken only two pills a week my BP has gone up to 136/87 avg... I have been having headaches and will be seeing neurosurgery in June about the skull hot spot and if a biopsy is needed. My oncologist was going to go with just doing bone scans every six months but without a diagnosis my insurance might not pay, don't you just love HMO’s. Also, I did had a great time at the “Week end of Hope” which was very emotional, I used a lot of Kleenex at the closing, it was a good thing that I meet up with some coupes for my “Man to Man’ group that help me by checking how I was doing throughout the weekend. I’m looking forward to going back next year and hope to meet some fine folks from HealingWell.

Jim, glad to hear from you and that your still fighting... Emotional support from groups are really important in healing, and I am glad you was able to meet with those folks. Keep on keeping on...

Jim, I took hytrin to control my blood pressure back in the late 1980's, it also had a diretic in it. You may need another drug to help contol the BP, and I'll bet the headaches will go. away. You have a great attitude, keep positive and fighting, we'll keep you in our prayers. I'm going to my first relay for life next month and walk in the survivior lap.

Just wanted to send well wishes your way and let you know that we are cheering for you! (I might not make it onto the SeaGals this year, but it's the thought right!? )
It seems like June is a long time to wait for your appointment. Have you tried calling an on call Dr in your neurologist's office or perhaps your IM or family practice dr to discuss your medications? I would definitely check with them about your meds, especially the hytrin. I imagine that you would have headaches if you were to stop cold turkey or even reduce the dose too quickly.
Glad your trip was so amazing! Keep us posted and keep the faith!!

I chould have had an appointment on the 28th but my wife has an appointment with her heart doctor that day.
I get my neurology services though the V.A. I had to see my neurologist before I was able to get the appointment with my neurosurgeon, by sheer luck I was able to get a same day appointment with the neurologist. This is almost never done or heard of in any V.A. health care system. The rest of my health care is by TriCare Prime which also can be a pain in the you know what. I was very likely that I got an OK for IG/IMRT as primary treatment as it isn’t a covered service by the plan.

Here's more support coming at ya - and I know you do the same for everyone else here.
It seems anyone whose been through cancer is in need of some emotional healing, too. You've taken the steps to do that, which I admire.

Just want to thank all the fine members here for all the well wishes and prays coming my way.
It was also so good to see all the gooses flying around this week. :-)
