Here's how I am going to moderate

I had to edit a couple of posts this weekend that were violating Forum rules, as insulting, ridiculing and use of sarcasm toward another member.  The rules Peter has set is clear on this and if I am to be an effective moderator, I must help him keep them.  I think it is only fair that we should expect a Forum where members can post without suffering the above mentioned insults, ridiculing and sarcasm.  This should apply to everyone here, friend or foe of the moderator or other members, and be as fair as possible to all. 

I want to be upfront and state to all that I will edit out the offending sentences and whole posts when they violate the rules, without prior discussion or notice.  If a thread continues past its usefulness and is creating conflict, I will ask that the Forum owner lock the thread to stop any future posting to it.  I feel this is the only fair thing to do for your moderators and for our members. 

If a majority of the members feel that I am out of line for doing this, speak now, so we can all see where we stand, and so we can find moderators who can adhere to the standards of the majority.

Dear aardvark2,

I am well known here as a non-religious member.  In addition to that, I am not a surgery guy.  That puts me in a big time minority.  In spite of that, my opinions have always been welcomed.

I welcome James C.'s post and his intent.  I think that civility is an important part of this site and I welcome it.  I understand fear and aggression.  I am, after all, a man who had (I hope) prostate cancer.  Let's be kind and helpful.

what the heck are you saying?  jamesc is a new moderator...learning his way...trying to establish an understanding with the hundreds of men and women who visit this site about how he will moderate.

for the record, the two posts that he edited this weekend were from one very religious person and one very unreligious person, neither of whom live in the southern part of the USA.  he showed no partiality toward one or the other....just wanted to make sure their disagreement did not escalate with insulting remarks.

i consider myself to be religious but am not on this site for religious reasons.  i respect those who are here and like to express their religious faith and i also respect those who have different perspectives of life.  i am a live and let live sort of person.

you have been a member here 3 weeks.  if you seek good information from fellow PCa patients and family members, i hope you stay.  believe me, the personalites, religious beliefs, political beliefs and so on are all over the board....but the information shared is excellent, in my opinion.

I'm all for decorum at the forum.  The rules here are good ones and meant not to restrict expression but allow the maximum latitude for all who post here. Lee (Bluebird), Barry (Idaho), Tony, Chayna (Doting Daughter) and James C.  have all done and are doing a terrific volunteer job of moderating this ever-expanding and supportive forum.  Free expression has obligations as well as rights.
