hi all iam new 2 this , i was wondering how long after catheter is removed do you have constant leakege. im goin on 4 days still leaks all day at nite i get up 2 go 2 times leaks alot less at nite any help please thank you

Welcome to the site. Sorry you have to be here. As far as regaining continence, each guy's experience is very different. but many guys are dry around three months. Some take longer...some MUCH longer.  You will notice you will be dry at night first. Then in the morning. As the day goes on, you will have a harder time staying dry.  So, the last thing to go away is leaking in the evening.  Even now, if I have any stress leaks, it's after 7:00 pm.  Don't look for any improvement for several weeks ...or months...to come.

Hi lemonlime1,

Sorry that you have to be here, but welcome to the best PCa forum on the net.

It is my understanding that most men leak for around 2-3 month after the catheter has been removed. A few men are lucky and are dry very soon after removal, but some are not so lucky and will leak for much longer. We're all a little different.

Little or no leakage at night after only 5 days is a good sign that you might be dry in the not to distance future.

Do you 'kegels' and walk as much as you can without straining to much. One thing you will have to learn with this disease and that is patience.

lemonlime1 - do you leak just sitting still or when getting up out of a chair?

If its getting up out of a chair, see if you can mentally, so to speak, try and stop it like doing the kegel...

I am 14 weeks post op - still using 7 pads a day, still waiting for that "overnight" improvement. I am involved in an incontinence trial study. The doctors told me they are seeing the biggest improvement between the 3 and 6 month marks.

Everybody is different. I've been pretty good at night from day one. Just can't stop dribbling during the day - and yes, evenings seem to get worse. I think all the muscles involved in holding it back just get tired.

My experience (today I am 12 weeks from RRP) is gradual improvement, but very gradual. I thought 4 weeks ago I was nearing the dry-up point, but I am still leaking a little here and there especially depending on how much I am on my feet. I have no problem when horizontal, and none when sitting. Getting up and moving is a different story and so is straining standing up. I also have found it gets worse toward the end of the day. I am now using 2 pads (one during the day), and one at night, although the one at night is basically dry. I have also had some days better than others. I keep an extra pad handy just in case of an emergency situation.

The only thing I can say positive about it is that I have gotten use to the routine, and it is not so bad.

PSA: 5.1
T1C clinical diagnosis, Needle biopsy - 10 cores, Gleason 7 = 3+4 in 1 core (40%), 7 cores Gleason 6 = 3+3 ranging from 5% to 12%
All scans negative
Lupron administered 4/9/2008 for 4 months (with idea I would undergo external beam radiation followed by seed implants - then I changed my mind).
Robotic DiVinci surgery - Dr. Fagin (Austin) May 19th

Extraprostatic extension - negative
seminal vesicle invasion - uninvolved

thank u all for your imput i was really scared about leaking all day and steve you are rite sittig down it seems to slow when i get up i try to go to the bath room and go . how long does it take before you feel the urge to go during the day is it normal to have no urge now 4 days after removal of catheter thank you all . lemonlime

Just hang in there LL1, Your just a few days post cath. I hope you dry up within the normal time frames. Just keep working the Kegeals and you might want to limit the caffene and alcohol. We'll be here for help and support if you need us.
