Cyscoscopy,urine flow and plaque build up...oh no

Hi Friends

I am now 21 months past surgery.  I use bi-mix injections for ED problems with limited success.  I am now dealing with something new and would like some advice from those with similar experience.

I shared my new problems with the Dr last week.  I asked if a slightly decreased urine flow was a problem.Also asked about possible plaque build up due to injections.

"Yes", he said.  He scheduled a "cyscoscopy" to check for possible scar build up.  Also, plaque was happening and he said I should stop or reduce injections.  Not good news.

I do not consider the slightly reduced flow significant and find the thought of a cyscostopy to be overkill. Sort of like swatting a fly with a hammer. So I plan to cancel the cyscoscopy appointment, and yes I will eliminate injections for a while. I have heard  cyscostopy stories that claim incontinence, bleeding, infection and "worse pain than prostate surgery".

Now my questions 1) how painful and unpleasant is the cyscoscopy? 2) Is the procedure worse than the problem? 3)Is it possible that the plaque build up is somehow linked to the reduced urine flow? 4) Has anyone else been having these problems?

Cystoscopy "The cystoscope is as thick as a pencil and has a light at the tip. Many cystoscopes have extra tubes to guide other instruments for surgical procedures to treat urinary problems." Sounds like fun....I would imagine that the plaque build up will get worse before it gets better....

I think it should be spelled  "cystoscopy"   cyst- os- copy

I've had about three of the cystos and none of them caused any additonal problems except the one where the doctor removed a stricture.  All the blood, etc. was not pleasant, but I think it's a useful device to give a clearer picture as to what's going on in there.

As far as the injections... have you considered an inflatable penile implant?

What are the symptoms of plaque build-up? I imagine hard patches where you can't get a needle through. I am 6 months into bimix injections -- getting good results -- and haven't noticed anything like that yet.

Is shifting the injection site a reasonable option? And does the plaque decrease with time if you give that particular site a rest?

I’ve had three cysto’s over the course of the last 4 years. It sounds absolutely horrible but really wasn’t that bad. Not fun mind you. I certainly experienced some discomfort during the procedure, and once or twice, a sharp but very short twinge of pain.

The after effects are no big deal. For me these included mild burning while urinating the first two or three times (hardly noticeable on the third trip) and the slightest bit of blood the first couple of times urinating. DRINK LOTS OF WATER and you’ll be good as new by the end of the day. A fellow I work just had his first cysto, he claims he’s worse times in the dentist’s chair.

Gene214 has got it right. I think it is about the best way they can see what is really going on up there. It is how they located my stricture which they then successfully treated.

    The plaque build up shows up as a hard ridge along both sides of the penis on the cavernosal cavity.  It is harder to push the needle through and it stings when the injection begins.  Because the cavity appears to have collapsed a little it is harder to find the best spot for a quality erection.  The doctor said I should first try to limit the number of injections (one a week) and try different spots.

The question I have not had answered is whether or not the collapsed cavernosal cavity could be part of the cause of a decreased urine flow.  The doctor never really answered that question.  I think it is plausable that pressure could be the reason.

The first urologist I saw, who I now refer to as "the quack" did a cyscoscopy (sp?) and also enlarged the urethra at the same time. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced.

I had 5 of them with four of them using the rigid probe that they gave the colligen injections with. None of them were fun but I think it would be worth it to see what was actually going on up in there.

I had one several moths ago to follow up on some blood in my urine---turned out to be nothing, but I'm glad I checked it out. WHen I went in, my urologist said -- "Let's take a look"...I was surprised that he'd do it on the spot...but I trust him.

No big deal- certainly uncomfortable, but didn't last too long. Hurt afterwards for about a day.

I believe it depends on the doctor.

I've had three of them done - all by different docs.  The last two were not that bad. It wasn't fun, but it was tolerable.

The first one.......it was pure HELL!  It's was a catch-22 situation. I hated to go to the bathroom, but I had to drink water in order to reduce the acidity. It brought tears to my eyes whenever I had to go. It lasted about one week.

If you get it done, I pray that your doctor is good one.
