Doctor's office just called.  My next corrective surgery will be on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:45, at the downtown St. Francis Hospital.  Will be my 4th op at that hospital, kind of fond of the place.  Only about 15 minutes from the house, right across the street from where both my sons work.  Even did a year of physical therapy there many years back.  Pre-op, which is long and boring with these folks, is a week from tommorow.  Then I will be good to go.

This part, I am not afraid of, I don't mind being put under so to speak.  Never have trouble with it, or on the recovery side.  Expected to be a 30 minute to one hour prodedure.  I am more interested in the good doctor taking care of biz for good this time.  Then the whole thing will be worth it to me.

My wife is my Medical Power of Attorney, officially and legally.  If you guys haven't bothered to do that, you should.  As my wife, and as a very seasoned nurse, she watches over me in  these situations, gives me a big, no,  a huge comfort factor, knowing that she will make the right medical decisions for me when I am under or unable to.  Something for you to think about.

Yeah, but will mean this cath #6 will have been in place for over 4 weeks by the time of surgery, but again, the alternative of another blockage over rides the nuisance of this catheter. Guess life is all about trade offs.

Yep, too bad its two more weeks from today, but a least this current cath is keeping me flowing, and I don't have to get up at night to pee, and no more pains from my bladder neck area which I use to deal with daily. So I will enjoy the vacation while I can.

I hope all goes well this time and you are deserving of that. I get impatient and want to be all healed, but someone else must be in charge of that timetable. Will be thinking about you on the 18th.

Only two more weeks. I hope you can wear the overnight bag as much as possible until then. I did not have good luck with the leg bag. It just seemed too violent.
Sit back and relax. You've earned it. By the way, I heard relaxation is GFMPH.

Back to the waiting game here. Seems that is how I have spend most of the year 2009, waiting for one thing or the other.

Good Luck David. I hope this s the last time you have to deal with bladder issues and catheter.

Good luck and hopefully you can say good bye to the catheter for good.

And to think David, this hurry up and wait syndrome didn't end with the Navy like we thought it would when we got out. Just make sure you step back when they ask for volunteers the next time round.

David, your post made me laugh this morning, in a good way. "It's good to know all the detail" line, we are both in the same profession, and we both know the thrill of the hunt and the devil is in the details. I can't speak for you, I know I am OCD about it, and would go nuts until every acct was in perfect balance to the penny all the time.

My father died a painful death of an ultra rare blood cancer 16 years ago, at the largest hospital group in my area (gee, the same one that I will have nothing to do with). Toward the end, he was out of his mind, and my mother didn't or wouldn't (not sure) make any decisions for him, so the doctor's, in my opinion, bullied or took advantage of him and got him to make treatment choices or losing treatment choices that took his life aways months if not a year earlier than it could have been. My father had no idea what he was agreeing too. I lived too far away at the time and couldn't be there often.

I vowed I would never be in that situation, that is why the M
edical Power of Attorney is so important in my mind set. My wife knows my feelings about quality of life issues, pain levels, organ donations, whether or not I want to be kept alive by machine only, etc. etc. And as a nurse, I feel extra blessed, because she knows the whole routine in those situations first hands. No one would be able to pull a fast one with her in the room.

Even when I spent my 4 1/2 days in the hospital after my PC surgery, she made sure all the nurses did the right thing, and kept a close eye on the monitors and IV drips so that I could rest
