I am finding that after RP I have needed to develop a subtle awareness of the state of my bladder. Before surgery, I would wait until there was an obvious strong urge to urinate -- now the impulse could be easily missed if I'm not paying close attention. By being more aware, I'm finding more success in gaining continence. Is this the case with anyone else? Is this the way things will be from now on? I'm just eight weeks past the surgery and still getting used to the changes.

Oops, racing oyster, looks like you got lost in the static the first time you posted on the 8th also. A belated welcome to you and thanks for your contribution. The Welcoming Committee promises to try to do better. For those who wonder, the Welcoming Committee is anyone who has posted at least once before. In addition, any card carrying, dues paid member of the Zero club is encouraged (required?) to be a Greeter, according to the bylaws and membership requirements of that august, exclusive organization. As you can see , we have a very select membership... All welcomed and none turned down. smilewinkgrin

I seem to have the opposite effect. I often feel the urge to urinate only to find that my bladder wasn't really full at all. I asked my doctor if my bladder has shrunk but he told me that it may have because of the enlargement of my prostate and that eventually it will get better.

As for Bladder Awareness, I too seem to be always aware of building urges, but cannot say that I would be unaware of them til too late, or anything like that. I had BPH before, so I assume I developed a 'Muscular Bladder' due to all the forcing urination that that entailed. After that the bladder likes to continue on with urges even when only a little urine has collected. For me that has mostly subsided, but if I do drink a lot, I do have to go oftener, but at least when I do go its a great whooshing amount, not the old piddling amounts. When I go to the Uro I just laugh at the urine flow tests now and fire away full speed ahead.

Speaking of urge to urinate, I had the strangest dream the other night that featured me doing firehose gushing urinations -- multiple times -- with amazed admirers cheering me on even -- sheesh. And then when I woke up ..... surprise .. .dry as anything (but I did have to get up and do a real unleash ...) Funny stuff.

First, welcome to the Other Side! What I've noticed 8 months after RRP is that I can hold it okay but once I decide to go, I'd better be well on the way to the bathroom and nothing better get in my way. If something does, I've got problems. I get up once a night just as before but, other than that, life is pretty good.

Hang in there and continue to improve!

I think in time you'll see that it takes much less awarness abd will be much more natural.

Hello Oyster,

Welcome aboard to our merry gang. When I was going dry, I often couldnt tell the difference between having a full bladder or just a dribble, just a strong urge to urinate. As time went by, was much easier to tell the two apart. Good luck to you.
