IT'S DONE-IT'S OVER-#35 IN THE BAG

It is official and I have the graduation certificate to prove it, I have completed my IG/IMRT therapy of 35 treatments. My T-shirt has had all of the numbers crossed off and the techs have all signed it.

First PSA is scheduled for 6 weeks out, so we won't know the effectiveness of it til then.

One thing I know for sure is that starting tomorrow I am through with getting up at 5:30am Monday through Friday.

The hardest part going forward will be to re-train my dog that he is not going out at 5:30am in the mornings anymore. He is just going to have to learn to cross his little legs and wait it out until I get up. I am normally an early riser, but 5:30am is even early for me. He'll mope and sulk for a few days, but eventually he'll get over it. He has to, he doesn't have any thumbs to unlock and open the door.

This is just another example of how PCa affects everyone in the family.

Thanks for all of your support over the last 7 weeks. You have all been great.

I have been blessed in two ways on this. I have had each of you by my side and I have had very minimal side effects. All in all the only real difficulty was the going every day. It is just reassurance that I don't miss having a full time job and facing the same thing each day. Blessed are the retirees, for they can lay on their butts and let each day happen as it will.

So this is my final update on the IG/IMRT process.

LUV, I live in Orlando and the posting clock on our entries here at HW is 2 hours behind the Eastern Time Zone. This always makes me stop and think too about the early morning entries.

Sephie, Lynn is doing okay. She is still pretty fatigued and that is why I didn't want her to go with me this morning. Doesn't do mornings too well. Although she never has. I have been trained well the last 26 years to wake up first, make the coffee and then stay out of the way. LOL How is your husband doing?

Thanks Michael. I truly hope that your treatment goes just as easy as mine. No doggie doors here. Too many cats running around, I would never get my dog back in the house. He truly loves chasing them out of the yard. Just hope he never catches them, could be trouble for all.

Congratulation, my brother Sonny. Knew you would do this in style ,and you did. Also glad you didn't get tripped up by side effects in any meaningful way. Perhaps you should put some little Depends on the dog so you can sleep proper in the morning again. 5:30 is an ungodly time to get up, as far as I am concerned, that still the middle of the night.

So what are you thinking about in an RV? Assuming a Class A or Class C? How long you have in mind? Now we can all plan for your RV while you wait for your post-PSA in 6 weeks.

I haven't heard any more from the VA, though they have sent me several friendly letters since Christmas.

Hi Sonny,

So glad that the radiation is behind you and that you tolerated it so well with few side effects. Now the hard part starts.......the waiting for the first post RT PSA test. I'm keeping my fingers x'd for a good result for you. My first post RT PSA was down 50% from what it was pre RT and the Onc told me that this is what is expected 6 weeks after RT for successful SRT. Hopefully in 6 weeks from now you can start the real celebration and look forward to a cancer free future.

I am indebted to you.  Your experience which may be more normal than some I have read, takes away much of my fear of salvage radiation.

I can face what lies ahead much more relaxed because of your candid reporting.

Others have said it much better than I ever can; I echo those remarks. You deserve some freedom from this scourge. I am pleased that it's over and thrilled that  you had a minimum of problems.

You have been so helpful to me, and I appreciate it. Thanks. For me, the journey is early, so I'll be on here for quite awhile.

I'd also be interested in more details about your RV search.  We have toyed with that thought over the years - we are still a few years away from retirement but the closer I get to that day the more I look forward to it!  David
